Job Summary:

As a member of the Accounting Department, the Financial Accountant will assist with monthly financial reporting duties, cash application, and preparation of audit. Individual will process fuel transactions, and meter readings. Individual will assist in the annual audit of Brooks Construction by preparing a variety of audit work papers. Individual will investigate, research, and answer questions from both internal and external customers. We treat our vendors as our customers, therefore excellent customer service and follow through is key.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform daily and monthly cash application and reconciliation functions

  • Identify and contact customers with overdue accounts and enter data into the tracking system

  • Perform monthly financial reporting duties

  • Prepare monthly sales and use tax, analyze and file

  • Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices

  • Process monthly fuel & meter reading transactions

  • Set up new equipment purchases in Spectrum and fixed asset database

  • Help maintain company equipment listing and fixed asset database

  • Perform back-up functions for various cost positions in the accounting department

  • Coordinate and/or work on special projects as assigned by manager

  • Communicate with CFO, Shop Manager, Logistics & EQ Manager, Sales & Vendors as needed

  • Prepare miscellaneous work papers for our annual audit

  • Other duties as assigned

    Requirements:

    Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) year professional accounting experience is preferred (experience in construction or manufacturing a plus).

  • Computer experience is required

    Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or other related field of study or; Five (5) or more years of work experience in cost/financial accounting required

    Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job may be considered.

    Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient skills using MS Word, Excel and 10 key calculator by touch

  • Accounting and analytical skills are necessary

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion

  • Ability to review and process high volume/large quantities of invoices

  • High degree of accuracy, thoroughness and attention to details

  • Proven dependability, organization, problem solving, and adaptability skills

  • Must have excellent interpersonal communication skills including demonstrated success with oral and written communication

  • High energy, sense of urgency and initiative towards action, with ability to learn/work independently as well as with direction

  • Customer service oriented

  • Ability to work for long periods at an energetic pace with frequent interruptions

  • Must be a team player

    Working Environment:

  • Individual will be working in an office environment

  • Individual will be working with internal and external customers

  • Individual will spend a majority of their time sitting at a desk

  • Hours will fluctuate with seasonality and accounting cycles.
