The Opportunity

This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location in the Global Privacy Office, which is part of the Office of Ethics and Compliance.

Our perfect candidate is an experienced privacy professional who can play a pivotal role in the day-to-day management of the Corporate Privacy Compliance Program. Although the Privacy Manager is supported by Legal, the Privacy Manager must be able to identify and resolve common legal questions and build strong relationships with other global business stakeholders, including IT, HR, EHS, Product and Business Development, Marketing, and other departments. The ability to understand and help manage multiple privacy projects reactively while simultaneously contributing to the development of a more streamlined and efficient long-term privacy review and approval process through procedural design, training, and compliance leadership is critical to this highly visible role.

Important Privacy Manager responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Review, approve, and oversee partnerships and internal projects that require privacy risk assessments, consent design, contract review, and broader data flow analysis.

  • Manage and draft global Privacy Notice as needed.

  • Work with Corporate functions to enhance Privacy by Design approach to support the release of global systems.

  • Respond to Data Subject Access Requests, customer complaints, and regulatory inquiries.

  • Work with business stakeholders to design better procedures,

  • Monitor and improve compliance by managing internal data protection activities, providing training, raising awareness, and assisting with internal audits.

  • Project manage privacy compliance program and ensure compliance with new US Privacy Laws , key rulings, and regulatory guidance.

  • Manage privacy incident response process, including notifications to impacted individuals and regulatory authorities, and work with impacted businesses on the remediation plans.

  • Act as a system administrator of OneTrust Incident Management and Data Subject Access Requests Modules.

Required Qualifications

  • IT, Business Management, J.D. or equivalent degree is highly preferred.

  • At least 3-5 years of global privacy experience in a multi-national company (medical device, pharmaceutical, consumer goods, or healthcare preferred) or a global law firm.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Privacy or compliance accreditation is highly preferred.

  • Proven knowledge and experience with GDPR and HIPAA and general knowledge of US State Privacy Laws and other global data privacy regulations.

  • Strong writing skills to assist with drafting and reviewing Privacy Notices, SOPs, contracts, and other privacy materials.

  • Strong verbal and presentation skills to facilitate communicating complex topics with diverse stakeholders during trainings or meetings.

  • Ability to use PowerPoint, Excel, Word, or other technologies to facilitate communicating complex information to stakeholders, manage personal workload, and track project details preferred.

  • Be detail-oriented, highly organized, and independent; capable of managing diverse projects with minimal supervision.

The base pay for this position is $95,000.00 – $190,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
