The Opportunity

This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location in the Global Engineering Services – Global Security Division.

As the Senior Specialist, Global Crisis Management you’ll enhance Abbott’s resilience worldwide through development and implementation of Crisis Management solutions that complement Abbott’s business strategy and strengthen the company’s ability to respond and recover from events impacting our people and business. As an integral part of the Crisis Management team you will collaborate with global stakeholders to develop and implement crisis plans, coordinate incidents of minor to moderate scale, and support management of severe/complex incidents. This includes developing or maintaining Crisis Management products such as a risk register, incident reports, and crisis plans. You will also lead across the organization through delivery of Crisis Management educational materials and by providing support to operational leaders during disruptions. Additionally, you will contribute to compliance reports and support post-crisis evaluation efforts.

The Senior Specialist, Global Crisis Management must be prepared to respond immediately to crises at any time, including during regular business hours, after hours, and on weekends and holidays; evening, weekend, and holiday coverage is required.

What You’ll Work On

  • Proactively collaborate with key stakeholders in building, sustaining, and improving the capability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from crisis incidents.

  • Coordinate response to incidents of minor or moderate complexity and scale. Support the management of incidents of severe complexity and scale.

  • Support development of a risk register of hazards that may impact Abbott’s business and work with crisis teams and other stakeholders to identify potential impact and mitigation actions.

  • Support the production of timely, accurate, and complete incident reporting for relevant stakeholders.

  • Develop, manage, and implement plans to achieve a high level of crisis preparedness and effectiveness within area of responsibility.

  • Plan and deliver Crisis Management trainings and workshops via virtual training platforms as well as instructor-facilitated sessions.

  • Lead and influence in a matrix environment across the organization, using sound judgement, successful execution, and an understanding of how to operate effectively across diverse business teams.

  • Provide operational support to business units during business disruptions.

  • Respond immediately to a crisis that might occur during a regular business day, after hours and on weekends and holidays; evening, weekend, and holiday coverage is required.

  • Contribute to regular and annual compliance reports, metrics, and trend analyses.

  • Implement program evaluation activities including post-crisis action reviews, identifying best practices, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Engage internal audiences through Crisis Management awareness materials and other sharable content.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience

  • 4 years’ experience with Crisis Management, emergency response, or related disciplines

  • Experience supporting program or project management

  • Hands on experience in incident and Crisis Management

  • Experience maintaining situational awareness and responding to incidents that pose a threat to company, property, data, or people

  • Experience with creation of metrics, reporting and analysis

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally. Maximum 5% travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Power BI

  • Familiarity with GIS mapping platforms (e.g., ESRI)

  • Experience with database management

The base pay for this position is $72,700.00 – $145,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
