EO Companies Facility and Custodial Technician in Abingdon, Virginia

Facility and Custodial Technician- job post Abingdon, VA 24210 $16.50 an hour-Full-time The Facility and Custodial Technician, under general and limited supervision from the Facilities and Logistics Manager, will provide a clean, orderly, and safe environment for EO employees, tenants, and guests. The Technician performs custodial duties in and around the building and grounds and implements setup and takedown for a wide variety of campus and community events. Essential functions

  • Promote a positive work environment by treating staff and visitors courteously and respectfully.
  • Clean building floors.
  • Gather and empty trash from suites and common areas.
  • Clean restrooms daily: countertops, bathroom stalls, toilets, urinals, polish fixtures, etc.
  • Clean building windows monthly.
  • Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment weekly.
  • Clear and dispose of trash and debris from grounds, walkways/sidewalks, and curbs daily.
  • Follow procedures for using chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to the buildings equipment and oneself.
  • Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created.
  • Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies manually or using hand trucks.
  • Notify the Facilities and Logistics Manager about the need for significant repairs and possible issues.
  • Request supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and facility duties.
  • Set up and arrange tables and chairs to prepare the facilities for banquets and meetings.

Work environment

This position is based in the Abingdon, Virginia office and requires occasional weekend support for users renting EO conference rooms and event space

Physical demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is often required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds unassisted. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to work outside in varied weather conditions. The employee must be able to climb ladders and work at elevated heights. Must be able to perform physical activities, such as bending, standing, climbing low to high heights, jogging, and walking. Must work safely in an environment containing cleaning materials, dust, and noise and in high participant traffic areas.

Position type and expected hours of work

Employee should be able to work core hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and possible emergencies outside of core hours.

Travel required

The ideal candidate will reside in the EO service area and be available to travel to multiple facilities in Abingdon as necessary.

Certificates, licenses, registrations required

  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance
  • Daily access to reliable vehicle

Required education and experience

  • High school diploma or GED required

Preferred education and experience

  • Past custodial experience and building maintenance in a large facility are preferred
  • Current CPR and first aid training preferred
