Phenix Technologies, Inc. High Voltage Test Engineer in Accident, Maryland

We are seeking a High Voltage (HV) Test Engineer I who will design and implement the testing of functionality and quality of Phenix/Doble equipment. This position will require the engineer to make design changes throughout the process that allow for the customers specification and quality requirements to be met. This role will be based in our Accident, MD location reporting to the Quality / Calibration Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Use sales specifications to create a testing and calibration plan to properly test standard dielectrics, coreloss test sets, high current test sets, and motor test sets.
  • Work with appropriate design engineer to redesign any faulty control, power, or metering circuits for the previously listed units to function properly and meet performance specifications.
  • Use all metering standards including kilovoltmeters, multi-meters, potential transformers, current transformers, and all other equipment used for testing and calibrating units.
  • Analyze failures found within the equipment during the testing process and implement solutions.
  • Complete all necessary documentation during the testing process, including standard logs, calibration certificates, test reports and shipping documents.
  • Train and support any test and service technicians with engineering issues that might arise.
  • Provide support to production in the application of nonstandard components to prevent potential future issues with quality or functionality.
  • Complete factory acceptance test with customer, by demonstrating that the unit meets specification, and ensuring that the customer is sufficiently trained.
  • Support sales department with any presale product testing required by the customers.
  • Create and maintain digital worksheets used for simplifying test procedures.
  • Create and maintain testing and calibration procedures to verify quality and functionality of equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

DECISION-MAKING LATITUDE

  • The HV Test Engineer I is responsible for confirming test equipment is designed, manufactured, and operating to all sales specifications listed on the Sales Order.
  • If design modifications are required, the Test Engineer will ensure that all modifications are documented properly.
  • The HV Test Engineer I is responsible for confirming the calibration of the test equipment meets accuracy specifications.
  • The HV Test Engineer I also has the responsibility of assisting test technicians with all design changes.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 0 - 2 years of experience in a high voltage, high current, and high-power test engineer role.
  • Proper use of electrical test equipment to include oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, and similar type equipment.
  • Ability to verify that designs meet customer requirements and work with the appropriate design engineers to implement design changes when necessary.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office applications.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE (Not Required):

  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers
  • Experience with high voltage, high current test equipment
  • Experience with partial discharge detection systems
  • Familiar and comfortable interacting with customers
  • Ability to operate fork truck, manlift, and overhead cranes

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Capable of troubleshooting unique problems in a timely manner
  • Ability to mentor and train other members of their team
  • Ability to professionally communicate with customers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is often required to stand, sit, use computers, read, write, type, use copy machines, file paperwork, use telephones, and utilize written and oral communication to interact with clients, co-workers, and customers. Reasonable ccommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job. Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds.

Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job related skills, as well as relevant education or training experience.

Salary Pay Range Minimum $77,112.85 - Midpoint $96,391.06
