Consumers Energy Sr Fault Analysis System Protection Engineer in ADRIAN, Michigan

Location:
This is a hybrid position with requirements to work onsite Monday, Tuesday and Thursday with the option to work virtually on Wednesday and Friday per business needs and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan’s lower peninsula. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).
We are looking for: Senior System Protection Engineer
The Senior System Protection Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, and protection of moderately complex high voltage power systems. They will monitor the work of lower-level engineers and technicians on the development and implementation of protection schemes for our transmission and distribution systems. Additionally, they will be responsible for the coordination of the protection schemes with other utilities. The Senior Systems Protection Engineer will be responsible for the development of control philosophies and sequences for our larger, moderately complex generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
The Fault Analysis Engineer is responsible for ensuring the correct operation of the protective systems on Consumers Energy’s 138kV and 46kV distribution system. The Fault Analysis Engineer responds to emergent fault events and disturbances on the high voltage distribution and generation systems to support real-time operations with customer outage restoration. The Fault Analysis Engineer completes detailed studies of fault events to ensure correct operation and identify faulty operations of protection schemes. The Fault Analysis Engineer works with Engineering and Operations to develop corrective action plans. The Fault Analysis Engineer is responsible for developing monitoring recommendations and communication settings. The Fault Analysis Engineer supports the evaluation of new equipment such as communication equipment and line sensors. The Fault Analysis Engineer will support NERC compliance including PRC-002, PRC-004, & PRC-005.

DUCATION REQUIREMENT/SPECIALIZATION

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university with four (4) or more years of applicable engineering experience
[OR] Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited university plus a Professional Engineering license with four (4) or more years of applicable engineering experience
In this role, you will be responsible for:
Design, implement, and oversee protection schemes for high voltage power systems
Develop models and simulations to test the performance of moderately complex protection devices under various conditions
Select appropriate protection devices and settings based on system characteristics and desired performance
Coordinatewithotherengineerstoensurethattheprotectionsysteminteractsproperly withtherestof thepowersystem
Prepare technical reports documenting the design of protection systems
Investigate faults in protection systems and develop solutions to prevent future occurrences. Monitor changes in the electric power industry and revise protection designs as necessary
Manage projects related to the installation or upgrade of protection systems
Assist in the development of new protection devices and systems
Perform field tests of protection systems to verify their proper operation. Maintain accurate records of protection system designs and modifications
