About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Co., a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU].

Transmission Operations Specialists are responsible for developing and maintaining the Transmission Operations Guides (TOG) used by the Transmission System Operators and Outage Coordination. Employees in the entry level of the job family apply acquired education and experience to work situations and exercise independent judgment on basic projects and assignments. They provide support to management and higher-level professionals.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical review of prints received in Control Room and update TOGs as needed

  • Follow up with other departments to gather and interpret required technical information

  • Review technical specifications and prints to develop Transmission Operations Guides

  • Provide technical support to control centers around interpretations of drawings and prints

  • Ensure that EMS display changes are on schedule with job completion dates

  • Ensure various TOGs are updated as new customers, generators and other changes are made to the electrical system (e.g., special relaying conditions, system connection, and contact lists)

  • Developing and analyzing regular and ad-hoc reports.

  • Recommending and implementing improvements to work processes.

  • Recommending and implementing solutions to moderately complex issues and assignments.

  • Providing assistance to the control room as required during emergencies and storm related activities.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in technical field preferred with 3 years of related experience. In lieu of Bachelor’s Degree, an Associate Degree in related technical field and 7 years relevant work experience. Related experience might include experience in troubleshooting electrical systems, control print reading, project management, procedure writing, relay protection, sub design, engineering drafting, operations or outage coordination.

  • Basic understanding of control center equipment and technology

  • Basic written and oral communications skills.

  • Basic teamwork and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated analytical abilities involving basic problems; exercise sound judgment.

  • Basic leadership and organizational skills

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office, FileNet, SOR, EDOA, EMS, eDART

  • Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.

  • Must live within a 60-minute commute from the Control Center.
