Student Activities and Orientation at the University at Albany is seeking an Assistant Director to oversee Civic Engagement, Community Service, Student Organization, and Student Government initiatives. Reporting to the Associate Director, the successful candidate will serve as a critical member of the Great Dane Union professional staff, supporting student success and engagement for all students.
Primary Responsibilities:
Oversee FSL new member education/intake processes to ensure safe and positive member experiences while supporting organizational growth and success. This includes creating recruitment and intake timelines, reviewing organization applications, reviewing potential new member eligibility, and conducting new member educator and potential new member check-in meetings.
Provide overall support to Student Organizations, including planning of the Student Organization Leadership Summit.
Work closely with the Associate Director and Director to provide support and guidance to Student Association and Graduate Student Association leaders.
Manage the Engage UAlbany platform, providing a space for all UAlbany students, faculty, and staff to find, complete, and track community service and for hundreds non-profit organizations to list, advertise, and connect with volunteers.
Supervise one Graduate Assistant, two Human Development Graduate Interns, and additional undergraduate student leaders.
Plan and coordinate leadership programming and educational opportunities for fraternity and sorority life leaders in collaboration with campus partners, including, but not limited to monthly president's mass meetings, council retreats, council/chapter transition, officer trainings, risk prevention/harm reduction, hazing, alcohol and other drugs, new members experience/education, social justice, sexual violence prevention, and accountability.
Provide continuous reporting to campus stakeholders on community service and applied learning through the Engage UAlbany platform.
Provide oversight and support to the Student Association Elections Commission.
Provide support for evening and weekend programming efforts should the need arise.
Serve as the advisor to Honor Societies and Pre-Professional and Service Greek Lettered Organizations.
Manage UAlbany's voter registration drives and educational events, including training and supervising student ambassadors.
Maintain UAlbany's Voter Friendly Campus Designation through the "All in Democracy Challenge" by completing biannual applications, assessments, and reporting requirements.
Establish and maintain relationships with student group leaders, student association directors, divisional and administrative leaders, & external partners to continually increase the University's Voter Registration and Voter Turnout Rate.
Lead a team of university and community stakeholders to plan, coordinate, and implement the BIG Event Season of Service initiative and the 17 Rooms of Service initiative.
Manage the President's Awards for Leadership application and selection process.
Support Orientation, Welcome Week, Student Leadership Awards, and other large-scale events managed by the Great Dane Union.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
Three years of experience working in higher education
Experience working directly with student leaders and student- led organizations
Demonstrated superior interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Ability to be a self-starter and work both independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
Knowledge of the undergraduate experience at UAlbany or comparable institution
Strong technology skills and experience with platforms regularly used at UAlbany such as Campus Labs (MyInvolvement) and Galaxy Digital (Engage UAlbany)

Professional Rank and Salary Grade: SL-3, $58,000-$60,000
