New York State Senate Budget Analysts in ALBANY, New York
Conducting and reporting on state budget negotiations on behalf of the conference in assigned issue areas including but not limited to: health/Medicaid, Mental Health, and public protection. Reviewing, monitoring, analyzing, summarizing, and reporting on the Executive Budget proposal and other legislation, with a particular emphasis on the priorities of the conference. Reviewing and editing correspondence, press releases, research literature, and memoranda related to budget matters. Briefing Senators and senior staff on budgetary progress. Presenting analyses of policies and legislation to senior staff and Senators. Preparing written reviews and analyses of State budget and other legislation with fiscal implications referred to the Finance Committee and other Committees. Candidates must have a demonstrated interest in public policy and should possess a Master's Degree (or near completion) in Economics, Public Policy, Public Administration, Law, Political Science, or a related field. A Bachelor's Degree in conjunction with extensive State Budgetary or Legislative Finance experience may be considered as a substitute for an advanced degree. Candidates must possess strong writing skills, quantitative skills, analytical skills, and computer skills. Candidates must have the ability to analyze budget requests and fiscal practices. Candidates must have good interpersonal skills and demonstrate attention to detail. Candidates must be able to work flexible hours, including extensive nights and weekends during the legislative session. Familiarity with the State legislative process, and proficiency in Excel.
