We offer residential and therapeutic foster care programs for children and youth, Kinship support, homeless and community-based services for adults and families, a special education elementary school for ages 5-13, and so much more.

Position Overview: Performs various medical and clerical tasks to residential nurses and programing.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Medical:

  • Obtains vitals (including blood pressure, pulse, and temperature) as well as heights and weights for clients when necessary, and enters gathered data into AWARDS.

  • Track and deliver medications and supplies to the residences as needed.

  • Pack home visits for clients and complete audits of medications and inventory for med rooms.

  • Maintain a current narcotic count and notify RN and provider when new RX is needed.

  • Check in medications delivered by the pharmacy. Maintain cleanliness and organization in all med rooms.

Typing and Clerical:

  • Performs clerical/typing tasks as required by the health office personnel.

  • Responsible for entering gathered data into AWARDS such as vitals, contact info, medical updates, and more.

  • Assists with audits of medical information in Awards for completion and accuracy.

  • Completes necessary filing/scanning for online client records.

  • Navigate and input data into the state agency system, CONNECTIONS.

Communication with Staff and Guardians:

  • Under the direction of the RN and program coordinator, contacts program/agency social workers, nurses, treatment coordinators, parents and guardians etc. to provide messages from the health office staff.

  • Assists with maintaining department calendars and schedules as needed.

  • Maintain and report data gathered from monthly/weekly trackers in the residence with all nursing staff.

  • Design and prepare posters and seasonal health alerts, such as tick and bug bite prevention, dressing for cold weather, bike safety, use of sunscreen, etc.

Additional position-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor/ Director of Nursing.

Organizational Relationships: The Medical assistant functions under the direction and supervision of the Program Coordinator, overseen by the Director of Nursing. Cooperates with all levels of program/agency staff to facilitate the functioning of the Nursing department and all its programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Able to converse fluently in the English language, as well as write and understand the written word.

  • Ability to relate to and communicate with a wide range of people. This includes but is not limited to a broad range of people who are culturally and socio-economically diverse, as well as people with various developmental and functional levels.

  • Ability to exercise ethical, independent judgment and discretion; handle sensitive data with strict confidentiality.

  • Ability to understand, communicate with, represent, and carry out the mission, values, philosophy and policies of St. Catherine’s Center for Children.

  • Ability to conduct oneself in a manner that is becoming of an employee of St. Catherine’s Center for Children.

  • Ability and conceptualizations necessary to embrace and work effectively within a therapeutic-based program.

  • The ability to establish a respectful relationship with persons served to help them gain skills and confidence, empowering them to solve their own problems.

  • Ability to work effectively in a shared decision-making model as a team member, which includes the capacity to listen attentively to others, to share one’s opinions and perspective, and to resolve disagreements respectfully.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other personnel and service providers or professionals.

  • Ability to carry out written documentation as required by St. Catherine’s policies and procedures and as required by regulating agencies.

  • Ability to organize and effectively manage (in a timely manner) the varied tasks of the position.

  • Ability to work with clients with mental health issues, substance abuse and developmental disabilities.

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times, stressful environment.

  • This position will have access to highly sensitive records, with access to client Protected Health Information (PHI), in order to carry out the required duties and responsibilities. This may include Treatment Plans, Intake and Assessment information, Psychological and Psychiatric reports. Therefore, the ability to meet all HIPAA requirements and maintain strict client confidentiality is essential.

Position Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED Equivalent required; College preferred.

  • Must have a Clean and Valid New York State Driver’s License; be an actively licensed driver for at least one (1) year, and have reliable transportation.

  • Certified in the following areas:

  • CPR and First Aid;

  • Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI)

  • Medication Administration

  • Moderate to advanced computer and word processing skills in various computer applications: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Business Workspace Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Meet, Sheets, etc.); and secure Internet practices.

  • Experience with MAR/ AWARDS / NYS Connections, a plus!

  • Outstanding organizational and clerical skills, with a strong attention to detail and excellent writing aptitude.

  • Must be willing and able to work in close proximity with the clients we serve.

  • Ability to pass required pre-employment background checks, to include fingerprinting, is required.
