Position Specific Description
This position is responsible for performing and coordinating complex technical and economic analyses to identify the most cost-effective and competitive transmission projects to address identified and projected transmission needs.
As a Project Director with our Transmission Planning team, you will oversee all aspects of project planning, including need/solution identification, reliability analysis, financial and engineering/design viability, economic and broader benefit analysis, submittal development, and RTO/ISO engagement.
We are particularly seeking candidates with planning expertise in the PJM Interconnection (PJM) region , as this position will focus on PJM-specific opportunities and challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
• Replicate and analyze PJM's system needs assessments and studies, including power flow (thermal/voltage), economic analyses, and other criteria to identify drivers and develop robust transmission solutions.
• Use analysis to proactively identify strategic project locations and routing within the PJM region, anticipating current and future transmission needs.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with PJM’s planning and regulatory groups, actively participating in PJM’s planning processes and forums.
• Lead and contribute to the creation of technical submittals for PJM competitive solicitation proposals, including detailed analysis and solution justifications.
• Provide insights and recommendations to influence PJM’s transmission policy and processes to support competitive transmission opportunities.
• Identify improvements for state-of-the-art tools to enhance the ability to analyze complex PJM scenarios and sensitivities for transmission opportunities.
• Collaborate with internal and external Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to produce the most cost-effective and competitive solutions for PJM-specific projects.
• Structure, execute, and oversee contracts with consultants and subcontractors to support PJM-specific planning analyses.
• Conduct generator interconnection studies for projects connecting to NextEra’s PJM assets, including report generation and compliance with PJM’s interconnection standards.
• Provide planning support to NextEra Energy Transmission’s PJM utility operations, including modeling updates, compliance, and growth strategy recommendations.
• Mentor and develop new transmission planners.
• 10%-25% travel required.
The ideal candidate will bring:
• A power systems background with deep expertise in PJM transmission planning processes and familiarity with NERC reliability standards.
• Experience using tools such as PSS/E, PSLF, PowerGEM TARA, PROMOD, GRIDVIEW, ASPEN, and UPLAN for thermal/voltage, short-circuit, transient stability, and production cost analysis.
• A strong understanding of PJM planning processes, including reliability and economic analysis, as well as broader benefit assessments.
• Proven ability to manage complex, multi-stakeholder transmission planning initiatives in PJM, delivering comprehensive analyses under tight deadlines.
• Familiarity with PJM regulatory requirements and policies, including interconnection guidelines and compliance standards.
• Strong communication skills to succinctly convey technical insights to external stakeholders and internal leadership.
• Leadership capability to manage and mentor teams while driving multiple projects to successful completion.
Preferred Locations: NEET offices in Juno Beach, FL; San Francisco, CA; Clifton Park, NY; Denver, CO; or Austin, TX. Remote may be considered for highly qualified candidates.

This position manages all aspects of the business deal and ensures the project is completed on time and within budgetary constraints.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Manages all aspects of the day to day transaction process to ensure timely completion as well as a cost effective and competitive results
Leads and coordinates key functions such as financial feasibility analyses, engineering/design, project legal review, permitting activities and financial negotiations
Coordinates due diligence activities with other internal groups to ensure proper analysis and structuring of assigned projects
Acts as liaison between internal and external specialists regarding procurement, contracting, permitting and interconnection
Constructs contractual arrangements for project development
Negotiates agreements with consultants and subcontractors
Ensures compliance with applicable technical and regulatory requirements
Fosters external relationships with customers, third parties and members of the community
Identifies opportunities and negotiates power sales contracts
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
