Animal Control Officer, Animal Shelter

Annual Salary Range: $30,314.23 - $36,385.75 Grade: 17 (Employee: 7% on your current salary, whichever is greater; or 10.5% on your current salary, whichever is greater, if position is 3 grades or higher than current position) Appointment to a position in the classified service shall be at the minimum of the corresponding pay range unless otherwise approved.

The purpose of this classification is to establish an employment list to fill vacancies in the Animal Shelter Department, and future vacancies, as they may occur to perform responsible work in the enforcement of animal control ordinances that cover various animals, including those that may be diseased, unlicensed, dangerous, and stray. Captures unlicensed, stray, uncontrolled, sick, or injured domestic animals, livestock or wildlife by means of traps, catchpole or other accepted means and transports them to the animal shelter. Enforce the city's ordinances: issues warning noticed to owners of domestic animals, livestock and wildlife that are in violation; investigates and responds to complaints of cruelty to animals and violations of the animal control ordinances; works in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies; testifies in court regarding violations. Handles, prepares, and/or maintains the appropriate paperwork necessary to the functions of this position

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED; supplemented by three (3) years of experience in capturing, handling, and caring for animals and work involving a moderate degree of interaction with the public; or any combination of education and experience which provides the skills and abilities requisite for this position.
• Must possess a valid driver's license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification.

Work Schedule:

M-F, 7AM-3:30 PM, Monday - Friday; May work some weekends
