Space Ground System Solutions (SGSS), a subsidiary of Parsons, has an immediate full-time opening for a satellite operations / system software test engineer onsite at our office in Alexandria, VA.SGSS develops and maintains NRL's Neptune Common Ground Architecture, and in this unique position, you will have dual roles related to Neptune.

As a satellite operations engineer, you will use your operations experience to support Neptune deployments at government-run sites. Frequent site visits to the facilities will be required, along with necessary travel. Responsibilities will include troubleshooting issues in operations, supporting scheduled operation events, testing patch fixes in a test environment and reporting findings to team.

As a system software test engineer, you will be responsible for creating and performing test campaigns for newly created software and testing regularly scheduled software patches for production baselines already in the field. The successful candidate will have the technical background to be able to learn and apply knowledge in system level acceptance testing on a large scale, Linux-based platform architecture. You must be a quick learner, be able to work both independently and in groups, self-starter and highly motivated. You will be joining a strong team with a history of superior performance in a challenging and rewarding endeavor.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Providing expert guidance on software design to reduce cognitive load on operators in the field
• Identifying where unit, system, or integration tests will add the most value, then implementing them or guiding other engineers on how to do so
• Automating away manual test procedures by extending our toolchain and building test infrastructure
• Designing, capturing, and distilling performance metrics that characterize the system
• Dissecting and describing technical issues in C, C++, and Python as well as system configuration issues on Red Hat Linux systems
• Working directly with customers to verify unexpected behaviors, report them back accurately, provide workarounds, and/or track the issue to completion
• Seeking out and embracing customer-facing QA efforts such as documentation and training
• Able to work in an agile environment and understand agile methodologies
• Act as a mentor to team members to help develop needed skills sets

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Must meet eligibility requirements associated with obtaining an active DoD Secret clearance
• Must be a US citizen
• BS in Computer Science/Engineering or other relevant Engineering field from an accredited university or equivalent combination of formal education and experience
• 3+ years working with RedHat Linux environments
• 5+ years of system software testing and software development
• 5+ years of Satellite Operations experience during integration and test, commissioning/operational validation, anomaly analysis and resolution and/or routine operations
• Understanding of spacecraft subsystems, satellite communication systems, spacecraft operations and ground control systems.
• Experience with programming languages such as C, Python, shell scripting
• General understanding of how to take manual tasks and automate them for repeatable testing
• CI/CD and virtualization: Ansible, Jenkins, VMware, OpenStack
• Strong analytical, organizational, time management, problem-solving and interpersonal skills
