       The North Polk Community School District is a progressive educational community located in the Des Moines metro area just north of Ankeny serving the communities of Alleman, Elkhart, Polk City, and Sheldahl. The District proudly serves over 2200 learners from preschool through 12th grade in five buildings (West Elementary, PK thru 2nd; Big Creek Elementary, 3rd-5th; Central Elementary, PK thru 5th, Middle School, 6th-8th; and High School, 9th-12th). North Polk is seeking to hire a Business Office Intern, located in Alleman, Iowa. Compensation: $17.50 per hourDays: Up to 260 Hours: Flexible part time employment with 10+ hours per weekBenefits: IPERS; Gain hands-on experience in a business office and public school finance; Shadowing and training experiences with knowledgeable professionals; Flexible schedule for students; Get paid to learn about the field.Reports to: Director of Business AffairsJob Goal: To provide accounting support to the District by maintaining accurate accounting records in an efficient, effective and accurate manner, within established timescales.Essential Functions:

  • Attendance at work

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite

  • Ability to collaborate at high levels with all individuals

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to handle confidential information in a discrete and professional manner

General Responsibilities:

  • Enter receipts into accounting software and reconcile to source documents

  • Balance or assist with balancing monthly ledger accounts

  • Process grant, nutrition, non-public transportation, rebate and fuel tax claims

  • Monitor incoming invoices

  • Assist with monthly financial reports and fiscal year end reporting

  • Assist with line item budget input and reports

  • Maintain and organize digital records

  • Collaborate with other District staff to develop, implement, and/or update standard operating procedures

  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and in a professional manner

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

    Physical Demands:

  • This position is primarily desk-based.

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, scanners and printers.

Specifications/Qualifications:

  • Post secondary junior/senior, with a major/concentration in Accounting or Finance

  • Strong problem solving skills

  • Strong interpersonal, and communication skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Attentive to detail and maintaining a high level of accuracy
