Product Development Engineer

As a key member of the Aftertreatment team within Ford Vehicle Propulsion Systems Engineering, you will apply your engineering skills, creativity, and resourcefulness to develop and release exhaust aftertreatment solutions, meeting worldwide tailpipe emissions regulations. A Technical Specialist for ATS will work with you to provide the technical Coaching required for this job. This is a hybrid role both onsite and remote.

What you'll do...

Work with the ATS TS to Define best in class aftertreatment systems for gasoline and hybrid vehicles, meeting worldwide regulatory vehicle emission standards.

Define aftertreatment systems to align with program performance objectives and durability requirements.

Establish engineering specifications, component FMEA & DVP, identify and process system trade-offs to align with system boundary conditions.

Create and maintain catalyst prints, engineering specifications, application summary sheets, cost assumptions, etc. for three-way catalysts, gasoline particulate filters, and new aftertreatment technology driven by new regulations.

Lead supplier meetings to improve manufacturing processes for function, cost, weight, and quality. Perform audits of manufacturing facilities: substrate, washcoat, and canning.

Support Program Management Team, Engine Calibration, Exhaust D&R, Finance, Basic Design, and Certification teams with the intent of delivering the program specific design within program timing and cost constraints.

Develop and track hardware and calibration solutions that meet system functional and cost objectives.

Support evaluation of emerging aftertreatment technologies necessary to meet future government emissions regulatory requirements.

Limited travel, mainly in the US, but may extend to international.

You'll have...

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.

2+ years of experience in emissions development (coursework/internship/co-op experience is allowed).

2+ years of identifying and resolving emissions issues relating to calibration, controls, or exhaust system (coursework/internship/co-op experience is allowed).

Even better, you may have…

2+ years of Product Development experience which includes processing and delivering of programs from concept through production (coursework/internship/co-op experience is allowed).

2+ years demonstrating ability to analyze, plan, and solve sophisticated system problems as they relate to engines and emissions.

2+ years demonstrating a fundamental understanding of internal combustion engine function.

This position is a range of salary grades 6 - 8 .
