Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Driver License Examiner with CDL (Lehigh Valley) in Allentown, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 4591022 THE POSITION The Department of Transportation is currently on the lookout for a qualified individual to fill the role of a Driver License Examiner. In this position, the main responsibility will be to administer standardized knowledge and skills tests in order to assess the abilities and proficiency of both non-commercial and Commercial Driver License (CDL) candidates. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this role, you will be responsible for assessing the physical conditions and driving qualifications of applicants, as well as ensuring that vehicles meet the necessary mechanical standards outlined by regulations and guidelines. This involves conducting thorough pre-trip inspections of vehicles before conducting driving tests, checking for inspection stickers, lights, windshield wipers, and other mechanical components to guarantee safety and assess the applicant's familiarity with vehicle controls.

You will also be tasked with reviewing applications, registrations, and permits for any signs of irregularities or potential fraud, ensuring that all documentation is in order and compliant with regulations. Additionally, you will be responsible for administering both CDL and Non-CDL knowledge examinations to evaluate applicants' understanding of motor vehicle laws and traffic signs, as well as their practical skills in operating a motor vehicle and following road rules.

As part of your duties, you may be required to conduct audits on Third Party Examiners to ensure contract compliance, which may involve overseeing CDL skills tests or scoring alongside examiners during practical assessments. Furthermore, you will be responsible for administering various vision tests, such as telebinocular and color perception tests, to assess applicants' visual acuity and ensure they meet the necessary requirements for driving.

It is essential to strictly adhere to the Driver and Vehicle Services Customer Service Policy in all interactions with applicants and colleagues, maintaining professionalism and providing high-quality service at all times. By following established guidelines and standards, you will contribute to the overall safety and efficiency of the driver licensing process, ensuring that all applicants meet the necessary qualifications to operate motor vehicles safely on the road.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch Overtime and travel required Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Check your email, including spam/junk folders, for these notices.   REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (commonwealth title); or Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public. Special Requirements:

All positions require an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application. All positions require no suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the  five year period immediately preceding employment. All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an  active unrestricted Class M driver's license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during emp oyment. This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z. Other Requirements:
