Engineering Intern, Winter, 2024 (December 16, 2024-January 10, 2025)

PPL Electric Utilities is looking for Engineering Interns who can help us provide strong, reliable, affordable electric service to more than a million customers in Pennsylvania, while adapting to new opportunities that are changing our industry. A PPL Intern is a temporarily employed college student in an accredited four-year institution of higher learning, who is offered a work-study program designed to give college students practical work experience in their field of study. This program often helps students determine career interests. Beyond the scope of the actual tasks performed, the position is hybrid, the student becomes familiar with a corporate environment, and gains practical skills and knowledge to supplement their classroom experience.

Joining PPL as an intern provides you with the opportunity to explore possible career opportunities in any of the PPL Electric Utilities Transmission, Substation, and Distribution Engineering departments, as well as:

  • Meeting senior executives

  • Becoming members of business resource groups

  • Participating in community service projects

As an intern, you will be assigned to a supervisor as well as a Coach/Mentor. You will be assigned day-to-day tasks as well as a project. The project may be a team effort or individual. At the end of your internship, you will present to a team of PPL leaders the results of your project and an overall summary of your experience.

Examples of past intern projects include:

  • Smart Grid Equipment Failure Analysis

  • Transformation of asset inspection business process using autonomous drones

  • Accessing and monitoring transformer fault gasses with dissolved gas analysis (DGA).​

This position is a safety-sensitive role. Upon acceptance of a conditional offer, all individuals in safety-sensitive roles are obligated to report the use of any medication that may impair their ability to perform the job in a safe manner.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

The PPL Electric Utilities intern/cooperative will actively work to improve the state of the Transmission and Distribution grid and meet the ever-growing need for electricity.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Travel within the service territory required.

  • Possess a valid driver's license from state of residence.

  • Enrolled in a curriculum leading to a baccalaureate or master’s degree in engineering from an accredited college or university program.

  • Will graduate from their academic program within 12 months of internship completion.

  • Have an acceptable, cumulative, grade point average, not lower than a 2.5.

  • Eligible to work in the United States in accordance with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) regulations.

  • Able to provide an official student transcript and other required information.

  • Able to work hybrid, in a team environment.

  • Able to demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities

Remote Work
