DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This role encompasses a range of responsibilities related to the operation of a truck-mounted highway pavement marking machine, adhering to the guidelines set forth in the Pavement Marking Handbook and Subchapter K - Marking Book. The operator skillfully manages a remote-controlled pavement line paint gun, ensuring the accurate application of both single and double paint lines. Continuous monitoring of pressure gauges, meters, and other operational indicators is essential during the execution of tasks, allowing for timely adjustments as needed. The operator navigates the paint truck through traffic, maintaining steady speeds to ensure consistent application rates and proper line spacing, while also checking the functionality of pressure gauges and other indicators, such as the paint gallon gauge and temperature readings. The vehicle, equipped with a spray paint apparatus, is operated with precision to achieve clear, well-spaced pavement markings of the correct thickness. Additionally, the operator manages a supply truck with a stripped weight exceeding four tons, delivering essential materials like glass beads, cold plastics, and paints for the large-scale traffic line-painting operations. Proficiency in demonstrating the operation of line painting equipment is required, along with the ability to handle and move loaded pallets, paint containers, and various tools either manually or with mechanical assistance such as forklifts. The role also involves assisting with equipment maintenance tasks, including lubrication, monitoring fluid and pressure levels, performing minor mechanical and electrical repairs, and ensuring cleanliness and upkeep of the equipment. Seasonal responsibilities include participating in the winter shutdown overhaul of equipment, preparing daily reports, and providing necessary data for reports compiled by the crew foreman. Furthermore, the operator is tasked with snow removal and other general highway maintenance duties, as well as undertaking additional related responsibilities as required, including winter assignments in different units.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment. Work hours vary from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM; Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. Travel, overtime and shift work required. Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Experience and Training Requirements: Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program employed by the Commonwealth of PA; or
Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed. Must possess a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
Conditions of Employment:
All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvan a Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and one additional line painting certification, within the probationary period. Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment. Certain positions require operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission. This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
