Actalent Controls Engineer in Alpharetta, Georgia

Job Title: Controls EngineerJob Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Controls Engineer to join our team in Alpharetta, GA. The primary purpose of this role is to design, develop, install, and maintain equipment used to monitor and control engineering systems and processes. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering, electrical, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering and a minimum of 5 years of experience. The engineer will be responsible for designing, testing, and commissioning custom switchgear and generator control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, test, and commission control systems, including systems with different PLC controllers.

  • Develop control software using various PLC platforms and customize PLC software and hardware templates.

  • Interpret customer specifications and drawings, applying industry regulations and requirements.

  • Execute and support the design, test, manufacture, and commissioning of low and medium voltage switchgear controlling multiple generators.

  • Provide direction to CAD designers to create wiring and assembly drawings for generator paralleling switchgear controls.

  • Interact with internal and external customers to accomplish project milestones.

  • Create bill of materials for generator paralleling switchgear controls in ERP system.

  • Create PLC programs for control of generator paralleling switchgear.

  • Execute multiple projects simultaneously.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to create PLC programs using IEC PLC programming languages such as Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, or Structured Text.

  • Expert knowledge on at least one PLC platform such as M340, M580, AB Control, Compact Logix, DSLC, Easy Gen, or LS5 Architecture.

  • Experience in designing, testing, and commissioning control systems with different manufacturers' controllers.

  • Ability to interpret customer specifications and drawings, and apply them to design platforms considering industry regulations.

  • Experience in developing control software using various PLC platforms.

  • Understanding of protective relays and their functions associated with generator and utility protection applications.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Detailed understanding of NEC, UL 508, UL 891, UL 1558, UL MV, CSA 22-2, and ANSI requirements and their applications in switchgear controls.

Work Environment

The work environment includes working with low and medium voltage switchgear, utilizing various PLC platforms, and interacting with both internal and external customers. The role requires precision in creating wiring and assembly drawings, and the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently. The engineer will work in a collaborative environment with CAD designers and other team members to achieve project milestones.
