Full-time, Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM with on-call, rotation, and weekend work may be included.

Purpose:

Responsible for supporting the anesthesia providers in providing anesthesia care by providing technical assistance in the setup, operation, and maintenance of equipment, maintaining supplies, cleaning supplies, equipment, and work areas, and stocking anesthesia carts. Also responsible for assisting personnel in errands such as retrieving blood and blood products, transporting specimens to the lab, etc. The focus of this position is to facilitate the turnover of operating rooms between cases and to ready the rooms for the delivery of patient care by professional anesthesia personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Retrieves and returns blood/blood products from the Blood Bank as required.

  • Retrieves and transports lab specimens from ancillary departments as requested.

  • Responsible for the availability, preparation, set up, breakdown, decontamination, and maintenance of departmental monitoring equipment and other specialized mechanical/ electrical devices. Maintains thorough familiarity with the operation of all such equipment.

  • Responsible for ensuring the equipment is placed in its proper location at the end of the day or shift. Reports any equipment in need of repair or missing.

  • Responsible for cleaning and stocking disposable equipment on all anesthesia machines in the Operating Rooms, as well as those in the OB C-Section Rooms and Epidural Cart as well as the carts maintained for special procedures outside of the Operating Room.

  • Responsible for ensuring that all technical equipment is in good working order, readily available, and appropriately maintained. Maintains equipment service log. Refers appropriately to chief CRNA/Nurse Manager/ Biomed.

  • Assists with the orientation of new staff as directed by management.

  • Assists anesthesia providers during cardiac/general surgeries as needed. (assists in transporting equipment/patients, transports specimens to the lab, etc.)

  • Assists in the Holding Room and PACU as directed by supervisor.

  • Performs other similar and related duties upon request by supervisor or anesthesia providers.

  • Responsible for maintaining sufficient and appropriate supplies in all anesthesia areas. Responsible for maintaining all anesthesia ensuring they are clean and stocked with appropriate supplies.

  • Needs to be present in the anesthesia workroom/OR suite at all times other than scheduled breaks or when off the floor performing job-related duties, to be available to anesthesia providers caring for patients in the OR.

  • Employee complies with established occupational exposure policies. Reports potential safety hazards and needed repairs to appropriate personnel. Utilizes hospital policy to meet JCAHO and OSHA requirements. Adheres to universal precautions.

  • Responds appropriately to emergencies as directed by anesthesia providers.

  • Responsible for ordering all supplies via traveling requisition book or informing management when special supplies need to be ordered. Responsible for notifying the supervisor when supplies are on backorder.

  • Assists anesthesia providers in preparing and setting up for cases by locating, preparing, and providing them with the appropriate equipment and supplies, including setting up pressure monitoring systems, IV infusion sets, etc.

  • Dust and clean shelves that hold equipment/supplies.Stocked shelves with IV solutions and needed supplies.

  • Assists in stocking and cleaning other anesthesia areas as directed by supervisor. Responsible for maintaining and cleaning all anesthesia equipment; i.e., endotubes, laryngoscopes, LMA's, blades, etc., and replacing in appropriate areas.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Must be able to take calls as established by written policy that may result in employee working more than eight hours in one day.

  • Two years experience as an anesthesia technician or equivalent preferred. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: CPR is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
