Program Manager - Research Development

Position Description:

Designs, implements and manages an assigned program. Typical duties can include but are not limited to: Identify funding opportunities, conduct program assessments, prepare program reports, oversee and manage program marketing and communications, manage program databases, supervise program staff, plan research activities, coordinate program events, participate in strategic planning, manage program files, establish program standards and objectives, direct logistical activities to promote the success of programs, develop and implement project timelines and ensures deadlines are met, oversee program budget, ensure goals and objectives of grants are met, assists in proposal writing, comply and analyze program statistics.

Major/Essential Functions:

  • Leads SVM faculty through the proposal development process from inception to submission.

  • Reviews project narratives for compliance with and responsiveness to Requests for Proposals

  • Creates timelines and checklists for proposal submissions

  • Provides templates and guidance for ancillary documents, and compiles and shares final documents with the Office of Research Services.

  • Meets with SVM faculty to discuss the reviewer comments for their declined proposals and help them strategize for a successful resubmission.

  • Meets with SVM early-career faculty to learn their research expertise and funding goals and to develop research career plans.

  • Aids in identifying funding opportunities for SVM faculty.

  • Serves as a liaison with research development personnel from university central administration, as well as proposal developers from other units across campus to facilitate interdisciplinary proposals.

  • Ability to work with a diverse community including students, faculty, administrators, and industry, as well as federal and state agencies.

  • Superb professional writing and editing skills.

Ability to critically assess a program solicitation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree. Experience in research administration, grant proposal writing, and/or research development.

  • Knowledge of multiple funding sources for research and programs.
