The County of Potter needs qualified individuals to fill the following positions. The following requirements and qualifications are necessary to apply for the position:

JOB TITLE: Road and Bridge Maintenance Technician I

JOB REQUIREMENTS: valid Class C Texas Drivers License Class A CDL required. Haz-Mat and Tanker endorsements must be obtained after hire. CDL and all endorsements must remain in good standings. May be subject to in truck driver test. Some experience in roadway maintenance work or related field Mandatory drug testing

JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Roadway Foreman, performs maintenance work in a specialized or routine maintenance crew. May perform some duties independently or occasionally a very small crew. Work requires contact with public.

JOB DUTIES: Spends a majority of the time performing the following duties: Haul materials to and from job sites. Perform road repairs (potholes, shoulders and edges, guard rails, signs, etc.) Perform plant and landscape maintenance. Perform traffic control (placing and gathering cones, flagging traffic, etc.) Assist in repairing and erecting signs. Mow (ROW, VFD yards, any county owned property, etc.)

EQUIPMENT USED: Operate light equipment (front end loader (1 cubic yard or less), pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, tractor and mower, dump truck, etc.) As required, operates some heavy equipment (motor grader, heavy asphalt paving machine, herbicide truck, profiling and milling machines, self propelled asphalt distributor, tractor trailer haul truck

DUTIES AS REQUIRED:As required, inspect routine maintenance contract work. Dependability is a must. Perform minor maintenance and equipment repair (fueling, oil change, tire service etc.) Must be on-call to assist during emergency situations such as fires, flood, snowstorms and accidents. Must sand bridges and roads, put up warning signs, assist public, etc. May begin to troubleshoot roadway problems. May occasionally do litter pickup and mow county rights-of way

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, Working knowledge of methods, procedures and materials used in roadway AND ABILITIES: maintenance. Skilled in use of roadway maintenance tools and equipment. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work effectively with other employees. Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and work under variable weather conditions.

WORK HOURS: 7:30 AM TO 4:00 PM, MONDAY - FRIDAY OR 7:00 AM TO 3:30 PM, MONDAY - FRIDAY Emergency after hour response, on call duty, and open early duty.

OFF DUTY HOURS: Mandatory On-call schedule required (weekends and holidays), emergency response required.

PHYSICAL Including but not limited to: Bending, Carrying, Cleaning, Crouching, Climbing, Cutting, ACTIVITIES Kneeling, Lifting 40 lbs. and over, Digging, Drilling, Handling, Arm and Leg movements REQUIRED: Hearing, Holding, Repairing, Reading, Installing, Sitting, Walking, Squatting, Turning, Unloading, Stooping, Climbing, Crawling, Standing, Driving, Continuous Arm movements. STARTING SALARY: $19.00 to $22.00 hourly (40 hrs/week) DOE plus benefits; FLSA-Nonexempt

CRIMINAL JUSTICE INFORMATION SERVICE (CJIS) CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK

All candidates selected for potential employment must undergo and pass a criminal justice information service (CJIS) criminal background check. Should an offer of employment be extended, a CJIS criminal background passing status must be maintained for the duration of employment with Potter County Facilities. All offers of employment are contingent upon the results of the CJIS criminal background check. Failure to maintain a passing CJIS criminal background will result in the termination of Potter County Facilities employees.
