Summary:Under the direct supervision of the building Principal, the Media Technologist provides necessary day-to-day technology needs for students and staff. The Media Technologist also supervises the media center throughout the day. This is a 9.5-month per year position.Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Performs clerical functions related to the media center with effective communication and interactions with students and faculty.

  • Assists in making and keeping the media center attractive and functional.

  • Performs minor maintenance, periodic cleaning, repairs, and diagnostic routines on computers and communicates all technology repairs and questions to Ames CSD information technicians.

  • Performs minor maintenance, repairs, or diagnoses audio/video equipment and communicates all technology repairs and questions to Ames CSD information technicians.

  • Installs computer equipment and software.

  • Provides on-call emergency technical assistance for audio/video and computer equipment and software.

  • Assists teachers, students, and staff in the proper use and operation of audio/video equipment, computers, and software.

  • Maintains records related to management of CIR/CAT Library systems.

  • Creates statistical reports on Media Center activities.

  • Maintains the help ticket activities log and determines which requests will be forwarded to the Ames CSD information technicians.

  • Oversees student set up of sound and light equipment in the high school auditorium.

  • Assists teachers, staff, and students in the proper use and operation of the auditorium sound and light systems in the high school auditorium.

  • Communicates all needed repairs and questions pertaining to the high school auditorium to the building principal and the technology director.

  • Monitors student behavior in the media center.

  • Assist in operation and procedures related to printed materials, non-printed materials, computer files, audio/video equipment, computer hardware, and computer software.

  • Handles incoming telephone calls and takes messages as appropriate.

  • Maintains confidentiality at all times.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Post high school education in related field or the equivalent experience preferred

The successful candidate will exhibit:

  • Knowlege of and the ability to carry out modern office practices, methods, and procedures

  • Basic workable knowledge of audio/video equipment, computer hardware, computer operations, and software applications

  • Ability to organize and present facts and opinions clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively and professionally with students, staff, and community members, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to adapt to and work effectively in a fast-paced environment with a variety of situations, individuals, and groups

  • Proficient organizational skills, accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple projects and demands

  • Ability to relate effectively to high school students with different academic and behavioral needs

  • Initiative and the insight to anticipate problem situations and respond accordingly

  • Ability to take directions, work with minimal supervision, and follow policies and practices

  • Ability to create a sense of belonging and a welcoming environment for all students and staff

  • Ability to physically lift up to 50 lbs.
