McFarland Clinic PC Phlebotomy Supervisor (FT) | Lab | Ames | 2024-194 in Ames, Iowa

Description

McFarland Clinic is currently accepting application for Phlebotomy Supervisor for its Ames location. Candidates should be service-oriented, a team player, and be able to provide extraordinary care, every day to our patients.

Responsibilities include: Plans, directs and coordinates daily phlebotomy workflows. Understands phlebotomy workflows, including laboratory reception workflows, and is able to communicate with clinical departments and providers to improve and/or address phlebotomy/specimen collection issues. Supervises patient phlebotomy by prescribed technique outlined in the McFarland Clinic Phlebotomy Procedure Manual. Ensures specimen integrity by enforcing the laboratory's procedures for collection, handling and processing. Supervises all phlebotomy activities to include specimen collection, and training, evaluation and documentation of staff performance, including annual phlebotomy staff performance evaluations. Responsible for Phlebotomy Procedure Manual, ensuring that manual is current and new procedures are added when necessary. Makes recommendations for policies and procedures related to infection control, safety, and quality assurance. Prepares and maintains appropriate records, reports and statistical data as needed or deemed necessary. Serves as resource for phlebotomy staff on phlebotomy/laboratory related subjects. Provides orientation and ensures completeness of training for new staff to ensure comprehension of McFarland Clinic and Laboratory policy and procedures. Performs specimen collection (venipuncture, dermal puncture, special collections) as needed. Supports clinic-wide educational and leadership development initiatives. Works with Lab Scheduler/Laboratory Supervisor to establish work schedules and assignments for phlebotomy staff, including approving PTO requests, according to workload and laboratory needs. Working with the Director of Laboratory Services, facilitates and mediates phlebotomy staff meetings in regard to HR/personnel matters. Maintains all phlebotomy staff competency assessments and/or procedures. Adheres to all McFarland Clinic and Laboratory policies and procedures. Effectively utilizes the Epic Electronic Medical Record/Beaker LIS to enter patient orders, retrieve patient orders, and transmit patient records to physicians/providers.

Education

  • High School Diploma, GED or HiSET

  • Completion of a Certified Phlebotomy Program preferred..

Certification/License

  • Phlebotomy Certification through ASCP, NHA or equivalent.

  • Current Basic Life Support certification for Healthcare Providers.

  • Mandatory Reporter of Dependent Adult and Child Abuse.

Days: Monday - Friday.

Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Experience

  • 1 year supervisory experience with phlebotomy experience in a fast-paced laboratory environment.

  • Epic Beaker experience recommended.
