Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Environmental Services team is seeking an Environmental Scientist with demonstrated experience in major environmental project permitting efforts for NYS electric transmission or generation projects and renewable energy projects (onshore and offshore wind, solar, and battery energy storage system). The position requires an independent individual with solid problem solving and communication skills, and an ability to support the management and execution of large-scale multi-disciplinary permitting projects.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Environmental regulatory and permitting responsibilities include:

    • identifying project-specific environmental regulatory requirements,
    • coordinating with resource agency personnel,
    • writing and reviewing technical reports,
    • developing environmental permit applications, presenting at public meetings, and
    • facilitating successful environmental permitting of multiple and varied projects.
  • Project responsibilities may include:

    • work with project managers and senior project staff in producing high-quality work products for our clients,
    • support project delivery including providing technical input to projects,
    • coordinate and assist with scoping and scheduling field investigations,
    • site health and safety planning and completing work safely,
    • directing project teams and monitoring budgets, and
    • coordinating with clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Experience in specialty areas including electric and gas transmission and distribution, renewable energy, and utilities

  • Demonstrated experience with local, state, and federal environmental regulations, licensing, and permitting.

  • Experience with Article VII and Article 10 of the New York Public Service Law, New York Executive Law 94-c, EM&CPs, the National Environmental Policy Act, State Environmental Quality Reviews, surface water classifications, stream bed and bank protection and restoration, erosion control, SWPPPs, and flood plain evaluations.

  • Experienced with endangered species, Fish and Wildlife Studies and invasive species.

  • National Historic Preservation Act experience.

  • In addition to ample experience and technical skills, the selected candidate is expected to have a strong work ethic, proven communication and leadership skills, high ethical and moral standards, an excellent attitude and strong sense of humor, and a desire for team success and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Candidates must have outstanding organization, planning, and problem-solving skills.

  • Skill in Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor and/or Master of Science Degree in the natural sciences, natural resource management, or related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of environmental consulting and project coordination experience.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • $70,900 - $102,900 Min/Max Pay Range(s) for postings located in NYC/NY

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
