Excelsior Orthopaedics Group Perianesthesia Nurse in Amherst, New York
This position is responsible for providing quality care to patients undergoing ambulatory surgical intervention in the area of preadmission, admitting, recovery, and discharge . The Peri-Anesthesia Nurse provides direct patient care and other nursing services to the patient; this RN assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care of the patient. Performs perioperative assessment of the patient, nursing care plan formulation, operative care plan implementation and post-operative evaluation of the patient's response/outcome and of effectiveness and appropriateness of nursing care provided. The Peri-Anesthesia RN also ensures that the patient is prepared for discharge home by providing the necessary education to the patient and responsible caregiver.
Additional Responsibilities Include:
Receives patient into pre-operative area, assesses vital signs, and assists patient with preoperative preparation and carrying out physician/anesthesia orders
Reviews chart for complete and proper paperwork and reviews the patient health information prepared by the Preadmission Nurse.
The Peri-Anesthesia Nurse is required to collect, interpret record, and communicate pertinent data and information that are relevant to the patient's care in surgery providing patient-centered interactions, patient education, and answering questions.
Documents all procedures/tasks, medication administration, and assessments thoroughly and accurately in the electronic patient record.
Maintains Patient Care Unit in a state of readiness, ensuring that all necessary equipment is available and in good working order, with age specific supplies ready for use as needed
Observes for changes in patient condition and provides any needed interventions or urgent care to maintain patient safety.
Postoperatively receives patients into Post Anesthesia Care Area; receives report from OR staff and anesthesia practitioner.
Observes for changes in patient condition and provides any needed interventions or urgent care to maintain patient safety and communicates pertinent patient data to other members of the health care team in a timely fashion
Participate in overall Perioperative Department functions including, but not limited to, training of new staff, maintaining appropriate statistics, assisting with Quality Assurance projects, education to improve self and others, and attending staff meetings and annual educational in-services as required
May be required to assist in the maintenance and care of supplies; equipment and instruments in operating rooms or assist in preparing operating rooms for a variety of surgical procedure
Performs other duties required by Manager or Administrator.
Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
Current registered nurse licensure in the State of New York
ACLS and PALS Certification
IV Conscious Sedation Competency
Minimum of 3 years of PACU, ICU, or ER experience required
Ambulatory surgery experience with pre-op phase I and II
Certification, ASPAN or CNOR highly desirable
