Mohawk Lifts LLC Mechanical Design Engineer II in Amsterdam, New York

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Mechanical Design Engineer supports the Engineering Manager to provide engineering services to various departments of the company. This role receives direction from the Engineering Manager to perform mechanical designs of Mohawk new products, accessories, and customization. They are responsible for enhancing and revising product designs, with a focus on part standardization, simplification to manufacture, and a reduction of cost. The Mechanical Design Engineer will develop product documentation and technical specifications, test products, and support organizational compliance with testing and certifying organizations, including completing and documenting analytical stress analyses. 3D CAD experience is required and familiarity with FEA structural simulation and analysis as well as operations in the Autodesk Inventor suite. Additionally, the Engineer provides Mohawk with expertise in controls, PLC programming, and automation. The Engineer will also use their knowledge of the products to support the Service Department when needed.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •Researches and identifies the mechanics, performance, and functional requirements of the product to assure adequacy for the intended function in customer acceptable terms.•Completes and documents analytical stress analyses.•Partners with Purchasing and Production departments to create design improvements that support reduction in costs and improvement in product quality and performance.•Works with sales and other functions on new product development and customization projects.•Conceptualizes, conceives, plans design and model building, computer simulation, testing, costing, and customer acceptance activity with each task objective.•Assures the conformance of the project to all requirements.•Uses technical expertise to support team members.•Conduct product NRTL (Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory) inspections, lift testing with NRTL, and device calibrations. Provides oversight for all planning related to lift certifications.•Assists in identifying all regulatory requirements, standards or government agency activities that affect assigned projects or products. This includes, but may not be limited to electrical, environmental, and safety requirements.•Assist with monthly Automotive Lift Institute (ALI) lift reporting.•Back-up Engineering Manager for all ALI requirements and develops expert level knowledge of relevant standards. Fills in for Engineering Manager at ALI Committee Meetings.•Participates in industry activities which are associated with project technologies. Maintains an awareness of current technology as it relates to Mohawk activities.•Coordinates material cost optimization work between Engineering and Production.•Provide customer service support on engineering related items, both to internal and external customers.•MRP (BOM) data entry and drawing revisions.•Resolves Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), by investigating the problem to implement and document the appropriate changes.•Other functions as assigned.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and 10 years of experience, including 3 years of 3D CAD, 5 years of mechanical design and 5 years of MRP. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of mechanical design and drafting, CAD experience with Autodesk inventor, FEA structural simulation control design and familiarity with PLC programming. Experience in doing revisions to existing designs with a focus on continuous improvement of quality and cost reduction.QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, and SKILLS: •Must understand CAD drawings, bill of materials (MRP), AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor suite and Vault. •Must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills and interact with customers via phone and in-person. •Works well intra-departmentally and inter-departmentally. •Must be driven and goal oriented and willing to take on new challenges and see them through. •Must be able to demonstrate meeting goals and expectations. •Must be able to read, write, and speak English language and be understood. •Must be proficient in Microsoft (Excel & Word) and software applications including FEA structural analysis. •Must have good mechanical aptitude. •Must be able to handle multiple projects at any given time.
