Reporting to the Laboratory Administrative Director, and in accordance with all applicable guidelines, assumes immediate responsibility for the administration of all, organizational, regulatory, and the technical operation of one or more clinical laboratory sections. Plans, coordinates, and supervises the activities of personnel engaged in; preparing specimens, running/performing tests, and analyzing, reporting, and recording test results. A Lead Technologist works to ensure a employee training and competencies are met. Develops and implements employee schedules, maintains all related records, and participates in employee evaluations/counseling/discipline as required. Performs various administrative and clerical duties to coordinate the needs of the other laboratory sections. Responsible to establish effective communication with both internal and external customers and keep the Administrative and Medical Directors of the laboratory informed of all section activity and report all unusual or immediate concerns when indicated. Ensures that quality control standards are implemented and observed, that testing procedures follow prescribed guidelines, and that all clinical testing is performed in the most timely, accurate, and professional manner. Ensures CAP, CLIA, and Joint Commission standards are met. Performs the work of a Medical Technologist (MT-ASCP,AAB,AMT or equivalent).

Your Exceptional Skills and Qualifications

• Hospital and Laboratory Systems: Has knowledge of hospital computer systems (HIS), able to navigate and understand those menus necessary for the laboratory operation (i. e. order entry, reprint orders, order inquire, and patient inquire). Is capable of performing minimal troubleshooting to determine computer problem on HIS or LIS. Operates the laboratory computer (LIS) for functions authorized by security code access. These functions include but not limited to: entering orders, distributing reports, inquiring of results, correcting, revising, or updating incomplete information, is capable of performing minimal troubleshooting to determine LIS problem and possible solution, understand how to contact LIS vendor for support, if necessary

• Order Entry: Understands order entry system for procedures requested to answer questions, give directions, find procedures, and request tests for laboratory procedures. This includes interpretation of the order to ensure appropriate selection of current test and/or procedure. Knowledge of the pertinent information necessary to have patients properly registered as hospital patients (i. e. name, physician signature, diagnosis, etc. ).

• Medical Technologist duties: Performs routine Medical Technologist duties, including understanding and utilization of laboratory priority codes, patient identification, collection of specimens, receiving and preparing specimens, conducting advanced clinical high and moderate level testing, calculating, interpreting, recording and reporting of test results.

• Laboratory Protocol: Knowledge of the proper protocol for patient identification prior to sample collection and labeling requirements for specimens received. Inventories and stocks section supplies; reports supply deficiencies to supervisor. Prepares reagents not purchased in prepared form/solution for laboratory testing. Makes sure equipment and area is operational and ready for the next shift.

• Safety and Compliance: Enforces safety regulations in areas in which hazardous chemicals and materials are stored and used. Ensures that all staff members are adequately protected, and that procedures for disposal of waste and standard guidelines are communicated. Participates on appropriate hospital committees, as assigned. Coordinates laboratory participation in various safety and other programs and ensures compliance with applicable standards.

• 4 year / Bachelor's Degree Level of knowledge equivalent to that ordinarily acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a related science. (Required)

• One of the following is required CertIfications/Licensures: (Certification as a Molecular Biology Technologist (MB/ASCP or MDxT/AAB))

• Ferred CertIfications/Licensures: (Certification as a professional Medical Laboratory Technologist (MT-ASCP or MT-AAB, or MT AMT) or an equivalent in area of specialty., Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) (ASCP)

• 2+ years: Two or three years experience of progressive professional experience in order to acquire; a) a professional level of knowledge in Medical Technology; b) advance clinical expertise in one or more specialty areas; c) familiarity with all pertinent regulatory agencies; d) thorough knowledge or relevant laboratory policies and procedures; and 3) suitable analytical and interpersonal skills. 2+ years: Previous Leadership experience (Required)
