Job Summary

Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) is responsible for the planning, design and construction of the University of Michigan's physical campus. A division of Facilities and Operations, our professional staff has the expertise to manage a wide range of facility improvement projects. We are committed to providing outstanding customer service and safely completing projects on time and within budget.

What You'll Do

  • Develop SD and CD CAD drawings for projects using Revit, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation. Prepare sketches for minor maintenance-related construction.

  • Draft studies, SD's, and CD's to meet project objectives, optimize efficiency, and produce best value. Investigate potential problems or projects through field surveys of existing buildings, structures, and sites.

  • Conduct design and code research for projects.

  • Assist in providing general office support and developing and maintaining project administrative documents, including schedules, budgets, Regents Program Summary drafts, Project Evaluation Forms, Bid Release Recommendations, Contract Award Recommendations, Requests for Proposals, Memos, Meeting Minutes, and presentation materials.

  • Develop and maintain architectural master files using CAD and/or GIS.Provide architectural support and field support for the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of facilities. Provide project planning, interface with field trades shops, field inspections, and project close out documentation.

Required Qualifications*

  • 0-5 years of experience in the area of architecture or with an Architectural/Engineering firm.

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree from an accredited Architecture program.

  • Enrolled in the NCARB AXP program or qualified to enroll immediately upon start of appointment.

  • Fundamental knowledge of the concepts, practices and procedures in the design and construction document preparation for institutional or commercial buildings. Basic knowledge of structural, civil and MEP building systems.

  • Demonstrated creative problem-solving skills; excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge and prior experience of using drafting/modeling software (Revit, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation) for presentation materials and construction documents.

  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of graphic design software (such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop/Indesign).

  • Demonstrate a basic knowledge of general office programs such as Microsoft office suite.

  • Manage personal workload prioritization and projections for all projects and tasks.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Additional Information

This is a 12-month term-limited benefit eligible position with potential for annual renewals up to 5 years.
