Job Summary

An opportunity for a Lead Mechanical Engineer is available with Facilities Planning and Development, UM Health. The position reports to the Manager of Engineering. The Facilities Planning and Development department provides a broad spectrum of services related to facilities operations and project construction.

Responsibilities*

  • Performs a variety of engineering work in planning and design of the various mechanical systems used in healthcare facilities. These systems include HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and medical gas systems. Coordination, and/or participation in the preparation of estimates, and/or plans and specifications for several concurrent new building, building renovation, and/or infrastructure upgrade projects. Able to put together a set of Construction Documents (CDs) for execution by turnkey or bid & award construction process. Such projects may be single discipline or multi-discipline.

  • Plan, direct, supervise, coordinate and participate in the preparation of studies, reports, and budget estimates as part of project work and problem solving. Advise on health systems' routine capitol planning.

  • Provide in office, and on-site, troubleshooting activities associated with maintenance operations and construction projects. Provide direction, leadership and oversight to resolve issues.

  • Provide leadership, engineering expertise, and participate in the preparation of, maintenance of and implementation of office and University standards, Master Plans, Design Guidelines, Master Specifications, Preferred Manufacturers Lists, and standard design details

Required Qualifications*

  • Min 10 years of experience in the design & construction industry, much of which focused on healthcare.

  • Maintains a Professional Engineer license with the State of Michigan or has the ability to become registered in 18 months from date of hire.

  • Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge in mechanical system design in healthcare facilities.

  • Has acquired a bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited university.

  • Candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Familiarity with normally encountered office automation software (Microsoft products, email, etc.) and AutoCAD design experience is desired.

Background Screening
