Tool and Die Technician

As a Tool and Die Technician here at Honeywell, you will play a crucial role in our manufacturing operations in Anniston, Alabama. You will be accountable for maintaining and repairing various types of tools and dies used in the production process. Your expertise and attention to detail will ensure the smooth operation of our manufacturing equipment and contribute to the overall efficiency and quality of our products.

You will report directly to our Manufacturing Manager and work on-site at our Anniston location.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Construct, alter, and repair a wide variety of highly complex tooling, such as fixtures, jigs, and other special tools. Ability to independently plan all phases of fabrication. Read and interpret complicated blueprints, sketches, and drawings to construct the required types of tooling. Lay out work, make calculations, and carry out tooling projects to completion, holding work within very close tolerances and achieving fine finishes. Develop methods that aid in holding, locating, and machining work. Plan the sequence of operation and set up and operate various machine tools, such as mills, lathes, drill presses, surface grinders, etc., to fabricate necessary component parts of tooling. Perform hand bench operations such as intricate lapping, fitting, and assembly. Check all work with precision measuring instruments such as various types of micrometers, height gauges, vernier gauges, sine blocks, etc. Perform other related duties and assignments as required. Responsible for maintaining the press line's functionality, including completing PMs, coordinating setup changes, and completing die-installations according to set operation requirements. Early flexibility may be necessary to ensure early AM setup/startup.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform maintenance machine work such as building machine guards, repairing motor shafts, building, and maintaining die fixtures to a set tolerance.

  • Ability to disassemble, refurbish and reassemble various die assemblies.

  • Ability to troubleshoot presses, transfer systems, and dies.

  • Possess strong mechanical and analytical abilities and problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of metal stamping presses and stamping dies with very tight clearances.

  • Ability to work with OEM equipment manufacturers to troubleshoot, procure parts and obtain quotes.

  • Attentive communication skills

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in performing all jobs and functions.

  • Ability to solve unusual problems encountered.

    Keep supervisor abreast of any difficulties.

  • YOU MUST HAVE

    5 years of related experience

  • Knowledge & use of machine shop tooling

  • Experience with precision measurement tools

  • Familiarity with blueprint reading and geometrical dimensioning.

  • Basic Microsoft Office experience

  • Demonstrated ability to read blueprints and complex drawings.

  • Knowledge of metal stamping dies

  • Must meet security clearance requirements from the GOVT due to contractual requirements.

  • Mechanical experience working with transfer systems and press lines.

  • Experience with programming, operation, and setup of various machine shop equipment including lathes, grinders, and mills.
