This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Responsibilities Ensure that storage drums housing hazardous materials are properly labeled Prepare rough sketch of items to be fabricated outside the plating shop to meet mission requirements. Use precision measuring instruments according to established guidelines. Operate various types of cleaning equipment to meet mission requirements. Operate an electrode according to Army regulations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electroplater without more than normal supervision. I can perform common duties including, using electrolytic and chemical processes, plates, coats, and treats surfaces of metals and metal alloys for purposes of protection, repair, maintenance, and fabrication of items as well as the items for plating by grinding, buffing and polishing to a smooth surface. I can determine work procedures and devise various types of plating racks, jigs, and fixtures to accommodate intricate shaped parts as required. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Efforts: Work requires the continual use of both hands and frequent standing, stooping, bending, reaching, and lifting. Incumbent frequently handles objects weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally objects weighing as much as 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Incumbent works inside shop area with adequate lighting, ventilation, and safety controls. Work is of a dirty nature and incumbent is subject to minor cuts and bruises from handling material and using hoists. Incumbent is exposed to disagreeable and toxic fumes from chemicals used in the electroplating processes. Incumbent is required to wear protective clothing such as coveralls, goggles, aprons, boots, rubber gloves, etc. as protection against burns and exposure to hot water or chemicals. Incumbent is also required to wear self-contained chemical respirator when changing or adding solution to vats. Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
