As an Accounting Technician at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), you will receive and track vendor invoices throughout the routing and approval process and serve as a point of contact for inquiries on vendor accounts. This position processes invoices for payment through SWIFT such that these accounting functions and fiscal processes are performed accurately and in accordance with state statute, and adhere to state and MPCA accounting policy, practice, and procedure. In addition, this position will track and monitor payments made as part of the reimbursement process. Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) sufficient to analyze, interpret, and prepare financial information, records and reports; locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems.

Knowledge of the Minnesota's SWIFT program, or other private or governmental accounting system, sufficient to query and compile records and reports, and assist with preparation and maintenance of revenue plans, financial status reports and budget requests.

Working knowledge of electronic spreadsheets, word processing software, computers, and other office equipment such as calculators.

Mathematics skills sufficient to calculate, review, and reconcile data and balance accounts.

Ability to provide advice on fiscal policies and procedures.

Customer service skills sufficient to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, co-workers and management.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience processing invoices for payment, business expenses, and reconciling daily deposits.

Problem solving skills sufficient to analyze errors and correct deficiencies to ensure accuracy.

Human relations skills sufficient to collaborate with a wide variety of audiences with limited knowledge of accounting requirements.

Accurately and efficiently process a large volume and variety of transactions in order to meet established deadlines.

Work independently while knowing when management consultation is needed.

Good oral and written communication skills.

Associate’s degree or higher in Business, Accounting or an Accounting related field.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small office equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
