Position Overview:

Sutter Delta Medical Center House Float Nurse coordinates professional nursing care throughout the hospital in collaboration with the multidisciplinary Care Team while practicing in an evidence-based manner within the Scope of Practice of the California Nurse Practice Act. The House Float Nurse will report to the Senior Director of Nursing and will function under the daily global direction of the Nursing Supervisor. In addition to the execution of the Rapid Response Team Policy. The House Float Nurse will function and serve as a resource to the inpatient units, Emergency Department and Procedural Areas under the role (but not limited to):

Job Description :

Responds to all Rapid Response calls in the medical center. Including but not limited to:

  • RRTs

  • Code Sepsis

  • Code Stroke

  • Participates in post RRT/Code debriefs.

  • Assists with IV insertions including use of ultrasound placement of IV’s.

  • RRT Nurse will perform a comprehensive assessment, initiate RRT standards procedure/processes based on assessment findings and collaborates assessment findings and makes recommendations for intervention.

  • House Float Nurse will assist the bedside RN with the following:

  • Notification to provider using SBAR reporting format.

  • Obtaining appropriate orders from provider

  • Initiation of orders received from provider.

• Support safety and monitoring of all critically ill patients in the medical center. Including but not limited to:

  • Receive a handoff report from Nursing Supervisor

  • Round on critically ill patients including those that have recently been transferred out of ICU level care (ex: patients in the 24-hour window after downgrade from ICU) and those that are potentially being transferred into ICU level care or are in a borderline phase of care that is requiring critical management not in the ICU.

  • Facilitates a supportive presence in the medical center. Including but not limited to:

• Checking in with each Charge Nurse on all inpatient units and ED. If the Charge Nurse is identifying a patient who is requiring critical management out of the ICU, the Float House Nurse will check in with the primary RN and assist if needed Support critically ill monitored transports in the medical center. Including but not limited to:

  • Monitoring and transport of RRT patients needing escalation to a higher level of care.

  • Emergent procedures and scans

• Support throughout the medical center at the direction of the Nursing Supervisor. Including but not limited to:

  • Assistance in ED Admissions

  • Assistance in Admissions during critical periods (such as change of shift) throughout the house.

  • Assistance in Response to Trauma Activations

  • Assistance in discharges on inpatient care units

• Reinforces education and learning in the medical center. Supplements with supportive educational needs and focus for the medical-surgical floors including but not limited to:

  • Early detection and management of decompensating patients

  • Proper suction techniques and airway/oxygen management

  • Provides support in house-wide Quality Initiatives

Pay Range is $72.21 to $97.72 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
