Pukall Lumber Company Maintenance Millwright in Arbor Vitae, Michigan

The Maintenance Millwright will repair and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment.

This is a regular full-time, hourly (40+ hours/week) position eligible for benefits. Our manufacturing hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and weekends as needed. The scheduled hours during the training period will be Monday through Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Upon successful completion of the training period, this position will be scheduled to work Monday through Thursday, 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Other opportunities for shifts may be scheduled to meet the needs of the Company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • [Perform equipment and system troubleshooting (repair, remove, assemble); preventative maintenance on equipment (i.e., head saws, trim saws, rip saws, molders, planers, conveyors, grinders, chippers, etc.).]{#viewer-56ret}
  • Repair or replace chains, belt conveyors, gearboxes/drive chains, electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding/cutting, and using power tools.
  • Examine the form and texture of parts to detect imperfections; inspect used parts to determine dimensional change requirements; adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments; repair/replace defective parts; install special functional and structural parts in devices; lubricate/clean parts.
  • Start devices to test performance; set up and operate lathes, drill presses, grinders, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  • Perform building utility systems such as electrical wiring and controls, heating and ventilating systems, and water distribution and plumbing systems.
  • Read blueprints and sketches proficiently to fabricate equipment and make modifications.
  • Initiate purchase orders for parts and machines.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase the efficiency of the department.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Experience and/or training in installation, industrial maintenance, and the repair of various machines and equipment required.
  • A one-year certificate from a college or technical school is preferred.
  • Previous sawmill experience is an asset.
