Summary

Instrument & Controls (I&C) Specialist duties are: Support the safe, efficient and cost effective production of electric energy by performing various power plant Instrumentation tasks. The scope of these maintenance functions will vary among facilities and are not necessarily listed in the bullets below, but are expected of this position. In addition to I&C duties, there are varying levels of other maintenance and operations tasks dictated by the requirements of the facility.

Any one position may not include all duties nor do the example of duties include all tasks, which may be found in the position of this class.

What You'll Do

  • Assessment, calibration, repair and installation of power plant control devices.

  • Troubleshoot systems controls and malfunctions in various devices, analog and digital, including Distributed Control & Programmable Logic Controller systems.

  • Utilizes available documentation, drawings and schematics to identify and troubleshoot problems.

  • Obtains/orders the necessary materials to support the maintenance of plant instruments and controls.

  • Performs preventative maintenance and provides feedback on follow up work and maintenance program improvement.

  • Performs job preparation and layout utilizing vendor data, drawings and other available information.

  • Competent and responsible use of hand and power tools.

  • Safely handles and disposes of hazardous materials and waste according to laws and regulations.

  • Provides training for other facility personnel in identified maintenance tasks.

  • Efficiently uses computer technology operate work management systems, to access work orders, input historical data, report time and order parts.

  • Efficiently uses computer technology to maintain, troubleshoot and update devices, controllers and equipment.

  • Employee performs in a leadership capacity, including assigning, supervising and taking responsibility for the work of other classifications.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Employee must work safely and efficiently in the performance of their job duties. Must maintain effective working relationships with other employees, customers and the public. Must have the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and have the ability to accurately and legibly complete applicable paper work. May be required to work a reasonable amount of overtime.

What It Takes To Succeed

The typical duties are not intended to include all duties that comprise the job content but are intended to illustrate the levels of difficulty of the job. Overlapping of typical duties and responsibilities exists and may occur among classifications. Shift work, non-continuous multi-shift, and overtime may be required. Specific levels of respirator certification will be determined by job assignment. The training requirements for this position will be listed in the Job Classification curriculum. This training will include the job courses that are identified for each facility.

Testing and Certifications

Appropriate respirator medical certification, fit test and training required.

Hybrid Workplace

SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona. We are taking steps to protect the health and well-being of all team members, and by following a number of health and safety protocols, to reduce the risk of the coronavirus (COVID-19).
