As a Business Operations Manager this is your opportunity to be at the intersection of data, analysis, and strategy that will make it possible for our teams to fulfill customer needs every day. In this role, you will own financial planning, forecasting, modeling, analysis, and data analytics projects from beginning to end. You will build reports, compile metrics, and provide trend analysis. You will utilize business intelligence tools to analyze data and drive key recommendations. You will work with Operations to achieve business objectives and communicate insights to key stakeholders. You will recognize and adopt best practices in reporting and analysis, including data integrity, analysis, validation, and documentation; and drive results in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.

You will provide analytical support for various programs, and build tools to surface timely, meaningful, and actionable data that will drive proactive decision making. Your analysis will contribute deeply to the development of our strategy and drive impact against our business objectives. You will collaborate with subject matter experts within AWS to work through complex problems and to create unified scalable reporting solutions for one of the fastest growing teams within AWS.

Key job responsibilities

• Establish and own a rhythm of the business that includes weekly, monthly, and quarterly business reviews, 2x2s, operational planning cycles, all-hands calls, and oversight on a cadence for touchpoints to keep the leadership team highly connected.

• Author an annual operating expense plan to inform the profit and loss (P&L) statements inclusive of the creation of expense management mechanisms for expenses such as licenses, speaker fees, event fees, travel, etc.

• Shape and operate the investment approvals mechanism to ensure responsible investment of company funds.

• Partner with Finance to validate data and provide insights for the monthly finance review.

• Collaborate with product ownership to envision, design, implement, and test data visualizations that inform stakeholders on critical metrics and insights inclusive of standardizing the way in which we communicate health of the business.

• Conduct trend analysis to identify relationships, opportunities, highlight strengths, and provide recommended corrective actions; incorporate data visualization of statistical analyses.

• Develop programs, methodologies, and reports for analyzing and presenting data.

• Act as a subject matter expert for business intelligence tools, and provide necessary training to team members on the usage of these tools.

• Perform complex data analysis across multiple systems to support both scheduled and ad-hoc reporting requests.

• Perform root cause analyses and generate remediation plans for under-performing key performance indicators.

• Work with a broad range of Amazon’s data resources in order to determine which sources to use for which information.

About Sales, Marketing and Global Services (SMGS)

AWS Sales, Marketing, and Global Services (SMGS) is responsible for driving revenue, adoption, and growth from the largest and fastest growing small- and mid-market accounts to enterprise-level customers including public sector.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data analysis, data visualization, and the art of storytelling

  • Experience collaborating across multiple business units that often have divergent interests; the ability to influence without authority

  • Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition

  • Experience with Excel (VBA, array functions, etc.)

  • Experience using business intelligence reporting tools (MicroStrategy, OBIEE, Business Objects, Cognos, Tableau, SSAS Cubes, QuickSight, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical internal customers

  • Proven ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment

  • Passion for storytelling

  • Experience supporting projects involving complex data sets and high variability

  • Master’s in Business Administration
