Amazon Corporate Counsel, AWS Energy Regulatory in Arlington, Virginia

Description

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Legal team is seeking a talented and experienced energy attorney to support AWS’s data center needs, including helping to solve new and evolving energy regulatory issues. This attorney would aid AWS in developing new energy solutions, including the pursuit of carbon-free energy sources. Amazon, including AWS, co-founded The Climate Pledge and committed to reaching Net Zero Carbon by 2040 – ten years ahead of the Paris Climate Agreement.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in energy regulatory issues, especially before FERC and state utility commissions. Direct transactional experience, especially in energy supply or involving utility arrangements, would be a benefit.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about technology and carbon-free energy, enjoys being continually challenged, and demonstrates sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.

Some travel, domestic and international, may be required.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of legal experience

  • Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent

  • Experience representing private companies before energy regulators.

  • Experience with working with utilities and regulators, especially FERC and state commissions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A mix of law firm and in-house experience at an energy company or at a corporation with large energy needs is a plus.

  • Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams.

  • Excited and passionate about energy, sustainability, and innovating on behalf of our customers.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
