Amazon Corporate Counsel, IP Litigation in Arlington, Virginia

Description

Amazon’s legal department is looking for a smart, experienced, creative, and highly motivated litigator with deft judgment and experience litigating a broad range of patent and other intellectual property issues to help manage the company’s worldwide portfolio of IP disputes and to advise the company on a wide range of cutting-edge issues relating to IP risk and protection. The ideal candidate will be comfortable rapidly learning new technology and business areas implicated by Amazon’s unusually diverse IP litigation portfolio.

Responsibilities will include helping architect and implement Amazon’s IP litigation strategy, including identifying opportunities to make new law; selecting, managing, and improving the performance of outside counsel; identifying and preparing Amazon witnesses; working closely with a talented team of hard-working paralegals and other assistants; coordinating with Amazon’s public policy and public relations teams on matters relating to IP; and providing daily cross-functional leadership and counseling to Amazon stakeholders on a broad range of IP issues.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of legal experience

  • Juris Doctor and membership in one state bar or equivalent

  • 5+ years of patent litigation experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Familiarity with copyright, trademark, and trade secret law

  • Familiarity with Internet, software, and/or media industries and the legal and regulatory environments in which they operate

  • Sound and practical business judgment combined with strong common sense

  • Experience leading teams in complex intellectual property litigation, including trial experience and counseling parties and witnesses

  • Experience with domestic and international patent litigation, including SEP/FRAND issues, UPC issues, and litigation campaigns in multiple jurisdictions

  • Ability to lead teams, including cross-functional teams, while being a strong partner to other lawyers, business clients, paralegals, and assistants

  • Curiosity, creativity, and the ability to thrive in ambiguous contexts

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $138,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
