Amazon Headcount Planning Lead, Startups Sales Planning in Arlington, Virginia

Within the AWS Global Sales (AGS) organization, the Global Sales Operations (GSO) team is responsible for supporting Leadership, Field, and Operational teams in achieving organizational objectives and driving continuous improvements in field productivity. We own and deliver “run the business” (RTB) operational cadences, build new mechanisms to support organizational growth and scale, and drive organizational initiatives.

This position will be responsible for leading and evolving HC planning for the AGS Startups Segment Field (Sales, Tech, Specialists, etc…). As a member of the Sales Planning team, this person will take ownership of existing planning processes while driving net-new initiatives focused on improving scale and automation. This person will work closely with the Sales strategy team, Sales leadership, GSO, Finance and WW Planning to focus on in-year, organization-wide implementation of key initiatives.

We are seeking an experienced Headcount Planning Leader to create and deliver a comprehensive and innovative headcount planning and execution solution for the AGS Startups team. You will own the end to end people processes required for the Field to have the right people, with the right skills, in the right place, at the right time to provide a great customer experience to Leaders. This role focuses on three areas (Capacity Planning, HC Management, and Program Management) to drive the business operational cadence using strategic planning sessions and business reviews.

The ideal candidate earns trust through performance and relationship building, thinks strategically and analytically about business challenges, has experience in program management and has a deep analytic background to assist the organization in meeting its business objectives. The candidate will be a self-starter with a bias towards independent problem solving, a passion for identifying and eliminating bottlenecks, and has the foresight to anticipate business needs, make trade-offs, and balance business dynamics despite constraints.

The right candidate has a strong record of delivering results timely and effectively. You should have experience managing complex global programs for sales engagement in large, multi-national, preferably tech organizations. The ideal candidate has broad technical skills, strong financial acumen, Operations or Sales strategy experience, and a deep analytical background. Strong judgement, ability to manage through ambiguity and complexity as well as a demonstrated ability to influence without explicit authority are key to success.

Key job responsibilities

  • Build a strategic plan for how we manage HC by Area and by function.

  • Define the headcount management and coverage strategy, influence tooling teams and their roadmaps, and operationalize through mechanisms.

  • Ensure delivery of accurate and timely, benchmarked headcount and coverage information to the organization to support decision-making and planning

  • Manage HC positions and allocation in HC tooling and report HC progress towards targets

  • Develop innovative approaches to delivering operational solutions that scale.

  • Write business papers and deliver recommendations to executive leadership for consideration.

  • Identify and address HC challenges within the organization and predict future issues that may arise

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience defining, refining and implementing sales processes, procedures and policies or equivalent

  • 10+ years experience in sales planning/strategy, sales operations, program management, and/or operational excellence, preferably in a large, complex, and fast-paced technology organization.

  • Proven track record of driving strategic initiatives, leading cross-functional teams, and delivering tangible business impact.

  • Thorough understanding of sales planning processes, tools, and technologies, with the ability to identify and implement innovative solutions.

  • Experience with market and insights related to cloud computing and IT

  • Exhibits sound business judgment, strong analytical skills, and a proven track record of taking ownership and delivering programs to support and grow a business

  • Creative thinker and problem solver bringing innovative approaches to building solutions

  • Experience interacting with sales leadership and establishing credibility as a strategic partner

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $120,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $199,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
