Amazon Learning and Talent Team Business and Data Analyst, Global Engineering Services (GES) L&TD North America in Arlington, Virginia

The GES Learning & Talent Development (L&TD) Team has an immediate opening for a highly skilled Business and Data Analyst in Northern Virginia (Arlington, VA) to solve business critical problems through data analysis. Driving the development of robust and semi /fully automated data reports and dashboards to deliver metrics and insights to the business within the learning and talent development space for our worldwide organization. This role has direct impact on the day-to-day decision making of large-scale programs and our ability to meet our business unit needs.

This role drives operational excellence by: 1) deep diving critical data to develop and mature operational learning metrics, 2) identifying tactical and operational trends impacting organizational learning an talent improvement and gap analysis, 3) developing solutions that increase team and organizational efficiency through better data sets, and 4) advising or influencing business decisions that have multi-region impact using knowledge of data driven analytical processes.

The Candidate must be highly analytical and possess a strong passion for tool development and analytics; set high standards for accountability with a focus on superior business success; and have a tenacity for continuous operational improvement. You will use your analytic talent, tool building skills, professional experience and judgment, technical aptitude, and personal skillsets to collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders across multiple time zones to identify requirements, seek out and discover disparate, but related data sets, design solutions, remove bureaucratic blockers, and find creative ways to invent and simplify to meet business needs.

You must be comfortable working with remote cross functional teams to deliver novel and sometimes pioneering solutions that will be used routinely multiple business unites; troubleshooting unforeseen and time-critical implementation issues as they arise; removing barriers to project success; and dealing with persistent uncertainty, organizational inertia, and business change. The ability to establish trust with a variety of internal customers and stakeholders, eliminate non-value-add activity, and find creative ways to accelerate project delivery is essential. Most importantly, you must be able to act independently (with limited oversight and guidance), using good judgement and effective communication to drive timely decision making and deliver high-quality results.

Up to 15% travel may be necessary to support GES L&TD team efforts.

Key job responsibilities

Include but not limited to:

• Design and build custom reporting and dashboards to support GES L&TD operations. Run daily, weekly, monthly reports with an ongoing cadence to support the team with data to help with project execution.

• Create reporting and metrics to facilitate analyses and drive data-driven decision making

• Own the development and maintenance of new and existing artifacts focused on analysis of requirements, metrics, and reporting dashboards.

• Report key insight trends, using statistical rigor to simplify and inform the larger team of noteworthy story lines.

• Deep dive into large data sets to answer key business questions using SQL, Excel, and other data manipulation languages.

• Continually improve ongoing reporting and analysis processes, while automating or simplifying self-service support and access to authoritative data sets.

• Partner with execution/business teams to consult, develop and implement KPIs, automated reporting/process solutions, and process improvements to meet business needs.

• Prepare and deliver business requirements reviews to the senior management team regarding progress and roadblocks.

• Own and perform individual deep dive analyses, including communicating results and implications to leaders.

• Generate weekly and monthly data reports for both internal and external business reviews.

• Learn and understand a broad range of Amazon’s data resources and know how, when, and which to use and which not to use

• Translate complex or ambiguous business problem statements into analysis requirements

• Scale data processes and reports; write queries that clients can update themselves; lead work with data engineering for full-scale automation

• Participate in strategic and tactical planning discussions.

• Excellent writing skills, to create artifacts easily digestible by business and tech partners.

• To support this initiative, you must be able to think strategically, perform dive deep analytics, and communicate effectively with internal and external senior leadership. Excellent communication skills are required.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of business analyst, data analyst or similar role experience

  • 3+ years of Excel (including VBA, pivot tables, array functions, power pivots, etc.) and data visualization tools such as Tableau experience

  • 3+ years of business or financial analysis experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • Experience defining requirements and using data and metrics to draw business insights

  • 3+ years of Excel or Tableau (data manipulation, macros, charts and pivot tables) experience

  • Experience with SQL

  • Experience making business recommendations and influencing stakeholders

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business, economics, engineering , analytics, mathematics, statistics or a related technical or quantitative field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in customer segmentation, customer behavior analysis, conjoint/trade-off modeling

  • Experience partnering with executive-level leaders to identifying and solving business issues

  • Master's degree in finance, accounting, business, economics, engineering , analytics, mathematics, statistics or a related technical or quantitative field
