Amazon Software Development Manager, AWS Region Services in Arlington, Virginia

Your expertise will be crucial in designing and implementing highly secure, fault-tolerant systems that scale to drive Region parity for all AWS service features.

The candidate selected must obtain and maintain a security clearance at the TS/SCI with polygraph level. Upon start, the selected candidate will be sponsored for a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.

Key job responsibilities

•Guide the design, implementation, and deployment of successful, large-scale services

•Identify and lead work on complex systems with company-wide impact

•Coordinate multi-team, cross-functional projects

•Nurture talent through hiring, mentoring, and career development

•Contribute to business planning and long-term strategy alongside senior executives

As an SDM, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex technical challenges. You'll balance strategic planning with hands-on technical leadership, guiding your team to deliver innovative solutions. Your day might include:

•Reviewing architectural designs and providing technical guidance

•Participating in planning sessions to align team goals with business objectives

•Mentoring team members and fostering their professional growth

•Collaborating with product managers to refine feature roadmaps

•Engaging with other AWS teams to ensure seamless integration of services

A day in the life

This role is in a team that is building new capabilities for Amazon Launch Manager to manage end-to-end product lifecycle and deliver service parity across AWS Commercial and ADC Regions. The role offers a chance to build and launch new capabilities to help service team easily and effectively launch services and features, drive feature and API level parity across AWS Regions, and work closely with an exceptional group of product, engineering, and science leaders

As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (IoT), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above
