Amazon Sr. Program Manager, Strategic Yard Design, Transportation Operations Management (TOM) in Arlington, Virginia

Description

Join the dynamic Transportation Services team with Amazon's TOM (Transportation Operations Management) division! We are seeking a Sr. Program Manager for our TOM Strategic Yard Design team. This role offers flexible location options at our approved ATS corporate sites: ATL12 (Atlanta, GA), BNA12 (Nashville, TN), SEA82 (Bellevue, WA), or WAS19 (Arlington, VA).

As part of the TOM organization, you will be at the forefront of transforming how Amazon builds and operates its trailer yards. TOM is the critical link that connects our Fulfillment Centers, Sort Centers, and other facilities across the network through transportation yards. Over 10,000 Transportation Associates manage this vital yard space, overseeing incoming/outgoing trailers, driving inter-site transportation, and optimizing asset positioning.

In this position, you will own the full lifecycle of complex, cross-functional test fit reviews, template development, and site drawing reviews to ensure compliance with Amazon Yard Design Standards working directly with the network-level business line teams responsible for building design and pre-construction. You will serve as the lead for consolidating and developing design change requests on behalf of the TOM organization to influence network improvements in safety, operations, sustainability, and future technology. The deliverables you are responsible for will influence VP-level decisions related to TOM staffing, critical technology and equipment, network yard capacity, and TOM program spending.

Data ownership and the ability to leverage site-level yard design attributes to influence capacity decisions are also key responsibilities. This role will maintain a comprehensive repository of all pre-construction development data and liaise with key stakeholders to compile project details and provide feedback. You will identify and mitigate risks, solve ambiguous problems, and communicate program status and insights to business customers and leadership.

To succeed in this role, you will work cross-functionally with teams in Global Realty Design, Network Pre-Construction, Design and Construction, Global Road Safety, Workplace Health & Safety, and TOM Field teams to drive meaningful change. This role is pivotal in ensuring TOM design compliance, supporting network growth, and influencing strategic decisions. If you thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, are passionate about driving operational excellence, and are excited by the prospect of transforming Amazon's transportation network, we encourage you to apply!

Key job responsibilities

• Serve as lead for consolidating and creating change request and design change request to influence network improvements in safety and operations for our customers

• Maintain repository for all pre-construction work by site within internal platforms (Asana, Smartsheet, and Quicksight dashboards)

• Obtain and document all specifics regarding projects from key real estate and pre-construction stakeholders. Research and compile all available information for legacy and new launch sites

• Oversee gaps between teams, processes and systems, helping teams reduce exposure to classic failure modes (e.g., requirements not sufficiently understood or documented, ineffective cross-team collaboration, long-term impact(s) from third-party solutions, security not considered, insufficient stakeholder review, etc.)

• Support test fit reviews, template development and review site drawings with customers, internal/external teams, and engineering teams to ensure compliance with internal standards

• Ownership of Amazon Yard Design Standards development and adherence

• Make timely, data-driven decisions to prioritize and solve problems

• Build effective relationships up, down, and across organizations

• Communicate complex concepts clearly to influence different audiences and levels within and across organizations

A day in the life

Your day will involve working on large, cross-functional projects. This will include managing project deliverables, providing feedback on site and program requirements as well as communicating progress and risks to leadership.

You will collaborate closely with business line stakeholders, central design teams, pre-construction and real estate to drive adoption and adherence of critical yard design standards.

Throughout this work, you will need to think expansively about how real estate and yard design can impact operations and capacity. You will be tasked with constantly exploring new, innovative ways to drive improvements and efficiencies.

About the team

This role plays a key role in ensuring adherence to published yard design standards as well providing feedback and capturing data for sites and programs in development.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements

  • Experience implementing repeatable processes and driving automation or standardization

  • Experience with at least two disciplines within the construction industry, which could consist of General Contracting, Owner’s Representation, Commercial Development, or Engineering & Design, or similar.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree, or MBA in supply chain, business, engineering, finance or related technical or quantitative field

  • Demonstrated success in communicating project requirements to various audiences (e.g. senior management, peers, vendors, etc.) Experience inclusive of professional services and demonstrated capability in the planning, design review, and implementation, for new and existing buildings. Experience in program management of concurrent projects.
