Position Summary:

OWNCS 1 Elementary School, located in Astoria, Queens opened its doors in 2002 and is one of the oldest charter schools in New York.  OWN 1 is seeking dynamic, talented teachers to provide exemplary instructional practices, work hard to meet the high accountability demands and close achievement gaps. Our ideal candidate will bring a passion for the mission of OWNCS, an understanding and respect for the culture of all residents, and a desire for working in a school setting that fosters a love for children.

OWNCS 1 Elementary School is an International Baccalaureate World School approved to offer the Primary Years Program (PYP) of the IBO.  OWN 1 provides students with a first-class learning experience that maximizes their intellectual, social, emotional, and physical development, including the development of their ability to apply their intellect to solving problems and contribute to their communities as enlightened and responsible citizens.

The Math AIS Teacher at Our World Neighborhood Charter School will provide specialized support to students in need of additional assistance in mathematics. This role involves assessing students’ math skills, delivering targeted instruction, and collaborating with teachers and families to improve student outcomes.

Primary Tasks:

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assessment and Evaluation:

       - Conduct assessments to identify students’ strengths and areas for improvement in math.

       - Use diagnostic tools and data to create individualized intervention plans.

       - Develop and deliver small-group or one-on-one math lessons based on student needs.

       - Implement differentiated instruction to cater to various learning styles and abilities.

       - Apply evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions to address students' specific challenges.

       - Adjust teaching methods based on ongoing assessment and feedback.

       - Partner with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other relevant personnel to coordinate intervention efforts.

       - Engage with parents and guardians to share progress and strategies for supporting math learning at home.

       - Track and document students’ progress through regular assessments and observations.

       - Provide feedback to students, parents, and staff regarding progress and areas for continued focus.

       - Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports student engagement and growth.

       - Address behavioral and academic challenges in a constructive manner.

       - Create and adapt instructional materials and resources that align with the school's curriculum and student needs.

       - Utilize resources effectively to enhance math instruction.

       - Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in math education and intervention strategies.

       - Contribute to the school’s collaborative environment through sharing knowledge and resources.

    Required Education and Skills

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education or related discipline from US accredited university or college.

  • Required - NYS Teacher’s Certification Grade 1-6

  • Experience in providing academic interventions and working with diverse student populations.

  • Knowledge of NY State Learning Standards

  • Must have appropriate credentials as designated by New York State Education Department and in accordance with definitions and requirements to be designated a highly qualified and certified teacher as defined by NCLB.

  • Must be authorized to work at OWN Charter Schools through appropriate NYSED fingerprint clearance.

  • Must demonstrate competency in all areas of content responsibility and be computer literate.

  • Must be able to:

  • Communicate through superior written and oral communications skills.

  • Exhibit a high caliber of expertise in subject matter.

  • Work on multiple projects and respond to requests and deadlines in an accurate, timely manner.

  • Make sound decisions within the parameters of authority.

  • Be courteous, professional and tactful at all times.

  • Maintain a positive working relationship with faculty, staff, board members, parents, students, authorizer and community.

                                                                            Salary

                                            $67,818+ depending upon education and experience
