The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) provides nutrition consultation and education for patients and their families who are screened at nutrition risk, identified with nutrition risk, and/or referred by physicians or other healthcare providers for nutrition-related problems, chronic disease management, management of nutrition support, to meet regulatory requirements, or for prevention and wellness in the inpatient, outpatient, and oncology setting The RDN is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team who serves as the patient’s nutrition advocate. The RDN ensures that the patient’s nutrition needs are being met, including when nutrition support (enteral or parenteral) initiation and/or management is necessary, during inpatient and oncology care. Primary responsibilities include application of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) including completion of the nutrition assessment, determination of the nutrition diagnosis, developing and implementing evidence-based nutrition intervention(s), and monitoring and evaluating the patient’s progress, and communicating the nutrition care plan with other members of the care team by effective verbal and written communication. Non-essential duties may include filling in other roles/positions as necessary or any other duties as assigned by a manager. Job Requirements • Assess patient's nutritional status and develop individualized nutrition plans based on their medical history, current health status, and specific needs in the inpatient and outpatient setting. • Provide education and counseling to patients and their families on proper nutrition, healthy eating habits, and lifestyle changes. • Monitor patients' progress and make modifications to their nutrition plans as needed. • Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team patient-care rounds in the inpatient setting to provide best practices for nutrition care. • Calculate and provide guidance on enteral and parenteral nutrition therapy. Ensure proper administration and monitoring. • Implement nutrition screening system for cancer patients undergoing active treatment. • Provide individualized nutrition assessments, counseling and nutrition recommendations for oncology patients based on their specific therapies and nutrition needs. • Delivers cardiac rehab nutrition, diabetes prevention program, and diabetes self-management classes. • Stay up-to-date with the latest research and developments in the field of clinical nutrition • Ability to develop and deliver presentations. • Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the client. • Knowledge of clinical nutrition theory and practice. • Knowledge of sponsored nutritional programs and patient certification requirements. • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on research data and findings. • Ability to resolve interpersonal problems, disputes and issues.

License/Certification:

-RD (Registered Dietitian) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration and LD (Licensed Dietitian) with the States of Oregon and Washington OR must obtain both within 90 days of hire. -Must have the State of Oregon Food Handler card OR must obtain within 90 days of hire. -Must provide verification of completion of internship and copy of diploma prior to hire date. -Must have RD exam scheduled and provide verification prior to hire date.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college, plus an approved internship with The American Dietetic Association. Master’s degree preferred. Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist Credential (CDCES) through the CBDCE preferred. Physical Demands and Work Environment Conditions / ADA Compliance May be exposed to/occasionally exposed to patient elements, exposed to varying degrees of kitchen elements. Position involves standing, walking, stooping, and occasional carrying and lifting of lightweight materials (up to 20 pounds). May be required to sit for extended periods of time. Requires visual acuity and depth perception to recognize words and numbers; and hand and finger dexterity and hand/eye coordination to use a computer keyboard and common office equipment.
