Under minimal supervision, the Assistant Academic Research Scientist performs a wide range of highly technical and complex tasks necessary to advance basic and/or translational research programs. Responsible for working with experimental platforms specific to the hiring Program.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Duties will include but are not limited to experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation and communication of results of basic and/or translational research.

  • Will be required to reviews literature and apply advanced knowledge, skills, and input necessary for protocol development.

  • May assist in grant and other funding applications, as necessary and appropriate.

  • Performs other responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Assistant Research Scientist with specialized expertise in animal care and surgical procedures to join our research team. This role is essential for supporting our biomedical research projects focused on mouse models.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Animal ordering and care management.

  • Animal breeding

  • Performing animal treatments and surgical procedures, including but not limited to:

  • Anesthesia administration,

  • Tracheostomy,

  • Isolation of embryonic organs,

  • Tissue harvesting,

  • Euthanization following approved protocols.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Conducting molecular and cellular biology assays.

  • Supporting cell culture activities.

  • Assisting with imaging and microscopy as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD or MD OR Master's degree and five years of professional level experience in a technical or research lab.

  • Internship experience or experience prior to attaining the qualifying degree is not considered eligible work experience for this job classification.

  • Laboratory experience will be based on area of assignment.

NOTE: Applicants applying with a M.D. or equivalent degree must be eligible for a Georgia medical license to meet the minimum qualifications.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., biology, biomedical sciences).

  • Significant experience with animal care and surgical procedures in a research setting.

  • Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, cell culture, and imaging is a plus.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice toemployee.
