IHG Corporate Counsel in Atlanta, Georgia

This role is based in the Americas region. Coordination with other legal teams as well as procurement, finance, compliance and privacy functions is regularly required. The role includes a heavy emphasis on complex transactions with vendors to deploy state-of-the-art technology services at IHG-branded hotels globally as well as business partnering and governance issues relating to cyber security, artificial intelligence, payment systems, and system access protocols.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities – (Key Activities)

  • Draft and negotiate legal documents to meet Company standards/objectives. Develop legal solutions and alternatives to execute the Company’s plans.

  • Counsel management on legal aspects of business issues to protect the Company’s best interests and actively guide management in evaluating legal risks. Explore alternative solutions to minimize legal risk, optimize Company returns, and integrate department needs to maximize the Company’s overall benefit.

  • Manage outside counsel as appropriate to ensure the Company is represented in a cost efficient and effective manner. Develop strategic direction and alternatives on legal matters. Provide status reports on pending legal matters.

  • Direct and oversee team members to ensure performance is measured and communicated, administrative matters are completed timely, budgets are developed, monitored and met, and tracking tools are reviewed and used to measure performance on an ongoing basis.

  • Develop and maintain a good working relationship in all client areas. Represent management in dealings with external parties to balance business goals while providing appropriate legal protection and offer alternatives to achieve company objectives.

  • Coordinate with others in the legal department and with legal teams in other regions on related matters to ensure efficient issue resolution.

  • Train and educate employees on germane legal matters.

  • Keep current on legal developments in substantive industry- and technology-related areas and update internal contract templates, processes, systems and documents as appropriate.

What We Need From You:

Education –

Bachelor's Degree and a Juris Doctor Degree. Member of the Georgia State Bar in good standing (or a member of another state’s bar with the ability to become a member of the Georgia Bar).

Experience –

4-10 years of experience in the practice of law, with first-hand experience in diverse technology-related transactions and other projects. Exposure to both law firm practice and the in-house legal role. Experience in cyber security, international, and/or payment systems matters is a plus. Demonstrated proficiency in multiple disciplines/technologies/processes related to the position.

Technical Skills and Knowledge –

  • Demonstrated capacity for developing long-term legal strategies and managing complex legal matters, particularly in the technology area.

  • Demonstrated ability in drafting and negotiating a variety of legal contracts and documents, including technology-related software, hardware, systems, SaaS, and similar agreements.

  • Demonstrated analytical, research, and presentation skills, with ability to speak persuasively and extemporaneously with senior level executives.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing and communicating legal strategies and tactics to clients explaining relevant risks and rewards.

  • Demonstrated project management experience in organizing, planning and executing large-scale projects from conception through implementation.

  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills for varied audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary legal team.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is performed in a hybrid office environment in IHG’s Americas headquarters located in north Atlanta with the expectation of three days a week physically present in the office. Relocation assistance is not provided for this position.

The salary range for this role is $139,000 to 215,000. This is the lowest to highest pay scale we, in good faith, believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the pay range will be based on several factors, including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.

**This job is also eligible for bonus pay.
