Southern Company Distribution Support Analyst or Engineer in Atlanta, Georgia
JOB SUMMARY:
Georgia Power Company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Application Support Analyst / Engineer or Software Developer to join our team. This position will be responsible for providing technical support for critical software applications and hardware systems. The successful candidate will be part of a diverse and growing team that seeks to create and improve processes that make operations cost-effective and consistent through application enhancement, integration, automation, and development. This team supports applications in both the Operations Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT) space.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
All aspects of the full software lifecycle model, including production support, solution delivery, and managing applications and/or reporting tools. Support for various software and systems used in the electric utility industry.
Support cross-functional workgroups to troubleshoot, schedule, and test internal and external software upgrades.
Maintain high standards of software quality by establishing good practices and cybersecurity standards.
Provide innovative recommendations for automating business processes to increase productivity and reduce costs.
Design and manage continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
Perform functional tasks such as requirements development, configuration, maintenance, enhancements, and upgrades to existing tools and applications.
Develop and maintain documentation related to support responsibilities and tasks.
Maintain technical proficiency and support knowledge sharing within the team.
Build productive relationships with internal customers and communicate effectively to understand and integrate their needs.
Foster innovation in processes and tools through automation and collaboration.
Understand, follow, and implement the company’s development strategies, standards, and best practices
Support projects/committees in Distribution Support and across Southern Company as required.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge/Skills/Attributes:
Knowledge and experience with Linux and/or Microsoft technologies.
Knowledge and experience with scripting and automation ie.. Python, Bash, PowerShell.
Extensive experience designing, developing, deploying, and supporting enterprise-grade software, interfaces, and APIs.
Experience in modern technology management best practices, especially source control management systems and continuous integration / continuous deployment environments with code and process documentation.
Proficiency with SDLC, CI/CD tools (e.g. GitHub Enterprise, Azure DevOps)
Self-motivated, able to work proficiently both independently and in a team environment, with minimal supervision.
Strong skills in problem-solving, decision-making, and multi-tasking.
Ability to analyze data and communicate insights effectively (verbal/written).
Follow through on all aspects of assignments to ensure quality solutions and increased value to customers.
Builds productive relationships with a focus on collaboration and teamwork.
Ability to obtain Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and Insider Threat Program (ITP) security clearance is required.
Education/Experience:
BS/BA or higher in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering, and/or related degree/certification(s) preferred.
2+ years of experience in software development, implementation, and/or support preferred.
2+ Experience delivering in DevOps environments, including experience with Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and agile practices is preferred.
2+ Experience with multiple programming languages (e.g., C#, Visual Basic/VBA, PowerShell, SQL, Python) is preferred.
Experience with full stack development and support is preferred.
Experience with relational databases (e.g., SYBASE, ORACLE, SQL SERVER) is preferred.
Previous experience providing front-line end-user support to multiple user groups is preferred.
Experience providing technical support and troubleshooting applications is a plus.
Experience with electrical power systems and utility operations is preferred
Experience with EMS, ADMS, DERMS, and other electric utility software and platforms is preferred.
