Maintain strong, productive relationships with key internal clients while serving as a trusted legal advisor, legal risk manager, and business partner. Serve as a technical expert in particular area(s) of specialization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to:

• Providing legal advice to business and functional partners regarding the risks related to all aspects of human capital management, including recruiting, hiring, managing, and disciplining employees, based on applicable employment laws and regulations, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, EPA, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, and state labor and wage laws

• Managing a portfolio of employment litigation, including selection and management of outside counsel, development of strategy, setting budgets, review of pleadings, facilitating discovery, and optimizing case resolutions

• Promptly responding to client inquiries

• Performing legal research and communicating findings in a clear and concise manner

• Apprising business clients and risk partners of developments in the employment laws and regulations applicable to their policies and procedures

• Working with human resources compliance officers to ensure appropriate interpretation of and compliance with laws and regulations applicable to human talent management and related services and activities

• Assisting other attorneys on an as-needed basis with legal assignments

• Counseling business and risk partners regarding policies, procedures, and templates to account for applicable employment laws and regulatory requirements

The position will not have any direct reports, but will be supported by, and have informal oversight of, a paralegal.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited U.S. law school and member in good standing in at least one state bar

• 8 years of experience practicing employment law in an in-house and large law firm or equivalent position, preferably for banks for other financial services providers

• Strong familiarity with state and federal labor and employment laws and regulations

• Experience independently handling EEOC, OSHA and other employment agency matters, including drafting of position statements and mediating claims

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Ability to effectively and persuasively communicate complex issues and strategies with employees at all levels, including senior executives

• Strong analytical skills and ability to balance business needs with legal risks

• Well-organized self-starter able to exercise sound judgment and provide legal advice in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines

• Ability to independently deliver results, multi-task and prioritize work based on company/client priorities and strategic goals

• Demonstrated willingness to be nimble, work as part of a team, collaborate and build relationships with colleagues and business partners

• High energy, positive influence and attitude, flexible, and exceptional work ethic and passion to win

• Member in good standing as a State Bar member or in good standing of another State Bar and registered as in-house counsel.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience practicing law in employment law

•Broad experience advising business clients and human resources on full range of statutory and regulatory obligations applicable to employers and all aspects of the employment relationship relevant field

• Experience with employment law support for disability, pregnancy, religious and other workplace accommodations

• Experience with FINRA arbitrations and The Broker Protocol

• Experience with employment law support for reorganizations, reductions in force, outsourcing, offshoring, and merger and acquisition deals

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other word processing applications and database management applications
