Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Salary Range

$67,800.00 - $111,800.00

What Is the Opportunity?

The intent of this position is to provide our internal employees, 2024 Travelers Summer Interns and Summer Students the ability to apply to our 2025 Full-time opportunities. Applications outside of this audience will not be considered at this time. However, for additional positions posted at a later date we encourage anyone who was not an internal employee, Summer Intern or Summer Student between June 2024-August 2024 to apply at that time.

Innovative thinking, creative problem-solving, and a determination to challenge the status-quo, these are some of the defining qualities for participants of our Engineering Development Program (EDP). The EDP is a 12-month, non-rotational program that includes four different Engineering tracks: Software, Data, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure & Cloud. Each track is designed to grow and develop your technical and self-leadership skills. Within your 12-month EDP placement, you will receive a combination of hands-on opportunities, technical learning accelerators, and a mentoring program to prepare you for a dynamic career. You will have the opportunity to explore multiple technologies within the Infrastructure and Cloud Engineering track while learning from different engineers within Travelers.

As an EDP participant in this track, you will model the way for others and set a personal example of what is expected. You will be expected to positively challenge processes and identify new and innovative ways to get work done more effectively and efficiently. You will be expected to take initiative, embrace change, actively listen to, and support diverse points of view and celebrate the success of others.

Enterprise Technology Solutions is accountable for accelerating the modernization of our technology ecosystem and the synchronization between architecture target states and the technology foundation. The ETS team designs, builds, and supports an evolving and dynamic set of technologies, platforms and services enabling our employees, software engineers, data scientists, and others while ensuring the delivery of business critical and strategic outcomes.

ETS EDP participants will experience an immersive learning journey focused on disruptive technologies, insurance, strategy, leading self and influencing others. They will help drive cutting edge infrastructure solutions utilizing the latest innovative methodologies and cloud-based technologies. Some examples may include, but are not limited to:

  • Applying ‘API First’ methodology and building APIs to provision compliant infrastructure primarily using Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

  • Building agents to monitor cloud and infrastructure activities leveraging “Event Driven Architecture” principles

  • Develop accelerators that generate infrastructure, code, and pipelines

  • Design and build web applications for reporting, monitoring and visualizing

  • Use AWS as the primary cloud provider and apply “AWS Well-Architected Framework”

In addition ETS EDP participants will have the opportunity to get involved with engineering support and installation and/or operations of infrastructure technologies. As an ETS EDP you will have the opportunity to work with and learn from experienced technologists in a fast-paced, agile environment that is continuously evolving.

EDP participants in this track will experience technical learning accelerators focused on disruptive technologies, insurance, strategy, leading self and influencing others. Additional program components include mentoring, networking, and career guidance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s or Graduate degree with a technology major or minor; or the successful completion of a state-licensed technical bootcamp.

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States now and in the future.

Education, Work Experience, & Knowledge

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater preferred.

  • 3 years or less of technology related experience (may include one or more internship experiences in the Technology field).

  • Exposure to Object-oriented programming (OOP) in one major language.

  • Suggested majors include (but are not limited to): Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering

  • Understanding of systems and interest in infrastructure and cloud technologies

  • A strong passion for infrastructure engineering and cloud services development

  • Familiarity with infrastructure and cloud technology industry trends

  • Foundational knowledge of or experience in the following areas desirable:

  • Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) concepts (e.g., GitOps, GitHub)

  • Scripting languages (e.g., Python, Typescript)

  • Integrated Development Environments (IDE) (e.g., VS Code)

  • Creating reusable constructs

  • AWS/Public Cloud experience and/or certifications

  • AWS Well-Architected Framework

  • Application Programming Interface (API) experience

  • Terraform/Infrastructure as Code (IAC)

  • Demonstrated aptitude in identifying current or future problems or opportunities, analyzing data, synthesizing, and comparing information to understand issues, identifying cause/effect relationships, and exploring alternative solutions to support sound decision making.
